The first thing to do was find the paints. Setacolor was available at Michael's, so I purchased a kit that had several different colors.
I then found a book in the library about painting fabric. Such beautiful results. But alas, I needed to return the book, and still did not crack open the paints.
Well my dear friend Kelly Jackson over at I Have a Notion issued a challenge using a new type of material by RocLon. I hesitated, and hem, and haw..... and finally Kelly just said..... awww, just try.
So here I am, trying something new on something new!
And then you leave the fabrics out in the sun, and wait................
The features of the Roc-Lon Multi-purpose cloth is that it will not fray when cut, it can be sewn, can be glued, and can be hole-punched. My first thought was to make a Journal cover. However because of the limited size of my sample (8 1/2" x 11"), I ended up using a DVD slip case as a pattern.
Thanks for staying with me on this process. It was a fun project. Hey Kelly, is this okay??

My hat is off to those of you that paint and hand dye, I'd rather just buy mine LOL.

I don't believe I have heard of that material before. I love how your paint job came out. I wouldn't mind trying some at a later date.
Love this fabric you've made...the colors are so pretty and I love what the leaves and the salt have done.

Good job!!!! I've never heard of that fabric. I usually just use muslin or sheeting and regular craft acrylics - I love to paint on fabric! But I don't get fancy either, like your wonderful salt and leaf creativity!
I love the colors and the way the leaves show! Cool process!
I just love it....love the colors, how the leaves came through....and then the fabric you put with it....great job!!
Thats come out really well. I love the colours.
Its wonderful learning a new medium.
