Stick with me

Several weeks ago, I was contacted by the makers of Lapel Stick to give their product a try. And what a fun product it is too. Lapel Stick is a temporary non staining fabric adhesive. Here is how I used it.

I've been working on my Tea Pot quilt, and you know how there are times when you have a long skinny piece to position and adhere to your block? Sometimes this is what happens to me -

The stem gets all wavy and does not like to lay flat for positioning.

I dabbed a little bit of Lapel Stick and tried the stems in several different positions. It was great that I can easily reposition the stem. When I got it in place to my liking, I just finger pressed to the fabric before ironing.

On this block I wanted to use a non fabric flower, and then stitch it down. There was no way to pin it, so I used the Lapel Stick to hold it in place.


Next layer. Dab a little Lapel Stick -

Position
Sew the next flower down.

Easy Peasy

Another thing I thought I would try is fold over binding. When I make charity quilts or quilts for children, I always bring the backing fabric over and use it for the binding. This may not work as well on large quilts, but for a small project, it beats all the pinning.

And I was able to hold the second fold as I stitched

Before anyone asks me about using glue for binding, let me share that Sharon Schamber uses Elmer's glue on her binding! If you would like to see how she does it, click on here. Sharon is an Award winning quilter.

And one last thought. As I was using this product, I could not help but think how great this glue stick would work on attaching trim, ribbon or ric rack to your project.

I've tried to sew down ribbon before and it can be a slippery adventure.

    That stick looks great! I would love to try flipping the binding from the back side to the forward. I can be lazy and don't like to pin all the time because the fabric slips but this product looks mess free and easy to use. I hope I win!

    This is the second time I've heard about Lapel Stick, but I've not found it in any shops by me. I'd love to give it a try for those pesky pieces that don't want to stay nice when you pin them in place (before sewing them down). Your photos really show how nicely this works!

    First of all I love your Tea pot. It is so cute! Second, I love the idea that you bring your binding up around your smaller quilts-that is the way Granny did it. And I would love to try that glue. Wonder if it is available in fabric stores right now?

    Great tip! I use glue for many different things, but worry about it being archival. Would love to give this product a try.

    I would love to try this product. I've used Elmer's washable glue in past projects. I have to make some applique Santa's for a block exchange that is due in July, and this would be fun to try on those blocks.

    I use glue sticks quite a bit when doing english paper piecing and applique, but being able to reposition the piece would be wonderful.
