Am I a Bag lady??

It all really started so simply when I would find a pattern and fabric for the pattern. It only made sense to keep the fabric all together in a bag. It started in the bag from the LQS.

They were pretty and sturdy. Some were purple, or pink, bright blue, red and even green. But then as I would collect fabrics for another project I wandered over to the plastic grocery bags (paper or plastic, mam?). Before long I was finding other bags to put projects in. The "green" bags from the stores worked great,
and the free giveaway bags from the Quilt shows. How about those large oversized zippy bags.

Then my dh came home with canvas bags from a convention he attended. These were even sturdier and had handles that could hold weight! Before I knew it, I was over run with project bags.

So have I become a bag lady?? There are so many projects that I have in mind, but they just end up in a project bag! Before I can get the first project started, I am drawn to a new one. Oh my! Am I the only one dealing with this dilemma??

  4. You are not alone with this. I started using bags for projects so that I wouldn't use fabrics for the wrong project, if they are safe in a bag along with patterns I would be safe. The problem I have had lately is remebering that the project is in a bag and not spending time hunting for the pattern. I have printed free BOM patterns too many times lately.

  5. I'm a bag lady too! Aren't we all? It's just too much fun. The only problem for me is that I forget what I have in all of those bags! :)

I used to keep keep all my projects...started and unstarted, in bags. Just rescently, I have a new organizing system and I only have a couple of hand...or "out the door" projects in bags. =)

...nothing wrong with being a bag lady...I think it's cool =)

  7. A woman forgot supplies at home for her quilt class. She called her husband and asked him to bring them to her. Upon arrival he stated, "You must have $100 worth of fabric in there!" If he only knew!!

  9. If you are a bag lady, so am I. Once, I thought it might look better if all the bags matched. It didn't make any difference. But I did get my sewing nook organized with lots of shelves. I did a post on my it and admitted to my collection of fabrics.

  10. I say what works for you is a perfect way to store. I'm have to admit that I have had one quilt project safely stored in a plastic box for 7 years and many Thimbleberries projects for longer than that. Maybe I should open that box and take a look at that cowboy fabric again. lol

  11. I am chuckling because that is exactly how mine started. I found it easier to have them all in one spot and then I just grab the bag and go to work on the next project. However recently my husband bought me two nine hole cubbies to put all my bags in. I think I am in trouble. LOL

  12. Hey Jocelyn, have you been in my closet? LOL! Yep, I'm a bag lady, too. I also keep sewing projects, fabrics, notions, etc. in mine as well. I think you are probably in good company because a lot of us employ this system of staying organized and putting those bags to good use! :o)

    XOXO,

  14. Your post made me smile. I have been a bag lady for years. That is why I am SO happy to be finally getting the craft room done so I can empty all the boxes and bags and find things I have most likely forgotten. I think it is a great idea to keep pattern and fabric for a project together. Then when you find it you won't have to wonder what you were dreaming up, it will all be there together. I even add a little handwritten note to myself sometimes telling myself what I had in mind for the project!
I wonder how many of us are out there? Probably tons!!
    Hugs,
    Julie

  15. I have the same problem, but, I also have lots of projects in large plastic buckets, too. They REALLY take up space. Lots of projects, only sew much time.

    (Projects In Grocery Sacks)

I have too many PIGS that need to be corralled in my sewing room :(

I guess I can call myself a PIG collector :) but must admit it is real nice having everything together and ready to go in a bag!

    See you're not alone :)

  22. Nope, you're not the only one! I love stashing my projects in individual bags or ziplocks - it makes it easy to grap one when I want to work on something or go to a friend's.

  23. No, you are not alone-maybe we need to start a support group! I've even got some in boxes.
