It's a love/hate relationship. I love cutting fabric, putting it together, quilting it. But when it comes to the final phase - sewing down the binding - my love turns to fatigued dislike.
I finished quilting this quilt (don't you love the backing?) and all that was left was sewing down the binding. I sometimes try to use the backing fabric, pulling it over the sides and machine stitching. But this backing was different than the quilt fabric, I just couldn't do it.
Sitting in front of the TV, I stitched night after night. It felt like forever. I'm just not a fan of hand stitching of any kind. But finally it was done.
I loved the fabric in this quilt so much that I scavenged the left over fabric and worked on a table runner.
This one I was able to use the backing to make the binding :-)
A happy marriage indeed!
Happy Quilting!
Love binding hate quilting. I love everything about quilting except the quilting process. I even love to design elaborate quilting designs but oh good golly actually quilting is torture.
ReplyDeleteI love the binding my pet hate is getting the flimsie, wadding and backing tacked together.
ReplyDeleteI do hand binding as a side job for all the girls at out LQS. And a few customers too. It's my favorite relaxing thing to do at night. I dislike picking out fabrics, too many choices!
ReplyDeleteYes, a big WHOOP WHOOP! Sounds just like my hating to "finish" a knitting project that requires seaming and weaving in the ends. LOL! Not the fun part. BEAUTIFUL work, Jocelyn. blessings and hugs ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteYour projects are fabulous. Definitely worth all of your effort.
ReplyDeleteI agree with DQ above: these are fabulous projects. I actually like hand-work though It seems that I don't get to enjoy as much as I'd like. Right now I'm grading essays :-(
ReplyDeleteI try to enjoy every part of the quilting process by reminding myself that I'm just stuck with this particular chore for a little while. Sometimes it actually helps! :-)
Oh how stunning - and Jocelyn - the binding is my favorite part!!!! It's like gift-wrap for someone special, the finishing touch. And besides, I love hand stitching, as you know, lol....
ReplyDeleteSeriously this quilt and table runner are just beautiful!!!!
