Checkerboard quilt

Wow, making this quilt was a challenge.

Trying to match all the points was not easy.

I don't think I will be making another one for a while.

Bob Newhart - a biography

 book cover for Bob Newhart

"Bob Newhart, The Life and Laughter of an American Treasure" by Michael Seth Starr is an informative book about the life of Bob Newhart.

I remember both series, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, were very entertaining. Starr takes it further in researching how Newhart started in show business. In 60 years Newhart was a recording artist, television celebrity and in movies. While also touring the country making appearances in nightclubs, colleges and Las Vegas. Newhart had a formative career, playing the straight man and getting laughs from his pauses in conversations.  He could hold a moment and make you laugh just from his facial expressions.

The book is a comprehensive overview of a successful life long career. The book is well worth reading. Especially if you were a fan of Newhart, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 95. Leaving a legacy of stand up comedy.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Net Galley and the publisher. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Antique quilts

We recently visited several antique malls and I was surprised to see so many quilts on display.

And finally this little gem.

It was fun to scout out these old quilts.

Checkerboard

Thanks to my techy son, I am navigating the new phone. So many different options. It's hard for me to grasp a lot of the new technology.  Including downloading pictures to my computer. But..... here is my progress on the checkerboard quilt.

Landscape Quilts

I love landscape quilts. I've only made three, but they entice me to make more.

Chevron Quilt

Recently a new phone entered my life, with a new camera. And unfortunately I have not been able to get my pictures transferred to my computer. So I will need to have my computer tech son help me. Until then I thought I would share an oldy but goody. I love my Chevron quilt, and this is a good tutorial on how to make it.

I watched a Youtube on making a Chevron quilt.  The demo was using a Layer Cake, but I thought I would try to make my own with 6" squares.

I picked out an assortment of blue and red fabrics.  Plus white for the background.

Cut 6" strips and then again into 6" squares.

Pair up a white square with one of the color fabric squares.  Sew all the way around.

With your trusty rotary, cut the sewn square in an X.
Press your seams to the dark fabric.
Line up the Chevrons and start sewing the blocks together.

I will work on these blocks and see how large this quilt will turn out.  I cut two yards of white background, and various amounts of the red and blue.

Happy Quilting!
