Helpful hint

Hi all. Back again to share another hopefully helpful hint.

With the spread of the corona virus, we are being extra careful about washing our hands, and using hand sanitizer. But have you considered those who don't take that much care, and handle things we might likely consume. Or perhaps a child picks up an apple after rubbing his nose.

Ok, so here is the thing. Years ago there was a vegetable wash that you could spray on your veggies to remove wax, pesticides and eliminate bacteria that may have been left on your tomatoes or other fresh veggies. There is a recipe to make  you own wash, for fruits and veggies, and another for leafy greens.

So here are a couple of links

The Happy Camper

The Happy Camper by Melody Carlson was such a delightful story. I was first drawn to it because we have a camper, and I thought it would be a fun read. And it was.

Dillon Michael's heads home after losing her job and breaking up with her boyfriend. Much to her dismay she finds her mother has moved in to help Grandpa on his farm. Left to sleep on the bumpy sofa, tension races between Dillon and Margot. But Grandpa has a surprise for her. Behind the barn is an old camper. Delighted with the find, Dillon sets out to restore the little camper and move in. It turns out to be her own little dream home.

Jordan Atwood is the helpful hardware store owner. Navigating Dillon around the necessary things she would need to restore her trailer, they strike up a friendship with the camper as the common bond. Jordan is a quiet guy, who had been hurt pretty badly in a relationship. As Dillon tries to figure him out the old boyfriend, Brandon, shows up out of the blue and makes a startling revelation.

The Happy Camper is a charming sweet romance, with lots of ups and downs, humor and finding trust in God.

Pandemic

There has been much talk and excitement across the nation concerning the corona virus. Panic buying and social distancing has become the norm for today. In light of these things, we need to think of ways to rally and take back the American ingenuity that has brought our nation through many trials in the past.

The rush for essentials has depleted many sources. But if we look we can always find an alternative. Can't say I have any solution for TP but for paper towels we can always revert to kitchen towels.

I often cut up old towels and use them to dust. Throw them in the wash with warm or hot water, soap and a cup of white vinegar for sanitizing.

You can also find cloth napkins in the thrift stores.

Water has always been one of the resources that quickly runs out. I know. We have a sniff of a hurricane and the water supplies are gone. But there is another solution.

We use a Brita water filter in our home. The filters are replaceable. I usually keep extra empty water jugs available to refill if we need a lot of water. Like when we have company or in a crisis situation like a hurricane.

As far as social distancing, there are a lot of things you can do instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Make a new recipe
Video chat
Bring out the board games
Tackle a puzzle
Get handy - fix something that has been neglected
Do the tough stuff - finish your taxes or complete that project your have been dreading'

Please do not over react or under react to the severity and contagiousness of this virus. Good smart hygienic practices will go a long way to prevent unnecessary infections and deaths. The hardest thing the next few weeks will prevail upon us as a nation will probably be mental and behavioral, not the virus itself. Stores will keep closing, curfews will be imposed, temperatures will begin to be checked for entrance into the remaining open businesses.
Be patient and let's pray rather than fear.

Here we are again!

And here we are again.

I ended up taking Hubby to the ER on Thursday night with weight on his chest. He said it felt like bricks on it. Anyway they said he had not had a heart attack because his enzymes were good. However because of the symptoms of the black outs they kept him for more tests. They did a chemical stress test and sonogram and determined that they would not do a heart cath. Everything-looked clear and the risk too high. So they inserted a monitor to check the heart continually. He continues to feel really tired. So I’m hoping the monitor will pick up whatever is going on.

I've been moving slowly with the quilts for Project Linus but I did work on this little one.

 Nice and colorful.

Hope your day is a Happy Quilting one.

The Runaway Bride

The Runaway Bride by Jody Hedlund has Arabella Lawrence running from her family who is trying to marry her off to an abusive older man. Joining the bride ship, Arabella feels uncertain, knowing she would end up a spinster unless she marries a stranger in a strange land. Meeting the gentleman, Lieutenant Drummond and poor, but charming Pete Kelly sets her on a course, deciding which of the two will win her hand.

Jody Hedlund does a beautiful job of creating characters that win your heart. I've read several of Ms. Hedlund's books before and she always does such an amazing job of drawing you into the story. Her characters are rich and full of faith and hope.

If you enjoy Historical romance fiction, you will enjoy this one.

News of the day

My hubby and I took Saturday to visit antique shops. We stopped in a Quilt shop along the way :-)

Saw this quilt made up and I had to have the pattern. There were so many interesting fabrics, not really from the same design. I think I'm going to dig through my stash of florals and give it a go.

AND the news of the day. Corona virus has made it's appearance in our area. It was probably going to happen, as we recently had the State Fair, and the Strawberry festival is in full swing. Many many people visit our area during this time of year. So wash hands, don't touch your face with your hands, and stay home if you are sick!

Happy Quilting!

Take a leap

This is a leap-year February. Why do we need to add an extra day sometimes?

The name "leap year" probably comes from the fact that while a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar normally advances one day of the week from one year to the next, the day of the week in the 12 months following the leap day (from March 1 through February 28 of the following year) will advance two days due to the extra day (thus "leaping over" one of the days in the week

It takes Earth approximately 365.242189 days, or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds, to circle once around the Sun. However, our Gregorian calendar has only 365 days in a year. If we didn't add a leap day on February 29 nearly every four years, we would lose almost six hours off our calendar every single year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by around 24 days.
