Are you making masks?

This morning I sent off emails to the winner of my Birthday giveaway. Unfortunately there were several comments that were no reply and no email address was attached. So I had to leave them off when I did the random selection.

However I have another request. I understand fabric for masks that most everyone is making should be of a tight weave. It does not prevent you from getting the virus, but will help the spread. I have quite a lot of batik fabrics that I'm happy to share, if anyone is interested in using them to make masks.

The weave in batiks is quite tight and I have a nice selection of colors. These are complements of Island Batiks from when I was an Ambassador.

Just leave a comment, and please be sure you let me know your contact information.

***** PLEASE leave me contact information. I already have had a couple of comments that are no reply and no way to contact you! Thank YOU! *****

A Birthday giveaway!

Happy Birthday to me......

Yep today is the day :-)  And it's an unusual one, with the stay at home order by our state. So instead of getting gifts today, I want to give.

Everyone loves Jenny Doan. My first giveaway will be four copies of Block magazine.

I am not an applique quilter, but for some reason I ended up with a couple of patterns. So I'd like to give them to one of you who does.

I'm throwing in a couple of fat quarters to get you started. And maybe a few more little surprises with it :-)

So here is the deal. This will be a quick giveaway. Over the weekend, being that we are supposed to be staying at home. This is for US readers (sorry, but postage is a killer). Leave a comment on this post telling me which prize you would like, and be sure I have a way I can reach you. Please tell me what was the best Birthday gift you ever received. I will randomly choose two winners on Monday April 6. If I am unable to reach you I will choose another winner.

We are all hunkering down to stop this dreaded virus. So please do your part. Sew, quilt, read, clean out the closets... whatever pastime you enjoy. I'd like to leave you with a word from the Scriptures.

"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

Happy Quilting!

A discovery

How excited could you be about paper towels?

Pretty excited when you find them on the paper aisle, at 3:00 in the afternoon!

So I'm in the grocery store, looking for ground meat (which has been scarse) and as I wander around I see the paper towels lined up right where they are supposed to be. Whoo-hoo! Yes we can only buy one package, but one is good, right?

And I have another discovery.  There has been no antibacterial soaps or sanitizers in our area for weeks. But I need dish soap. There on the same aisle I find this.

Can you read it? Antibacterial!  A double whoo-hoo!! So maybe you are having the same problem. Take a look at the dish soaps and see if they are stocking Palmolive antibacterial. I can fill my dispensers in the bathroom sinks as well.

And quilting, oh yeah. I've been quilting the baby quilts I'm making for Hands2Help Comfort Quilts

It's been quite a while since I've done any machine quilting and I feel kind of rusty. But hopefully I can get several of them quilted up for the challenge.

Hope you are having a happy quilting day!

Don't you just love...

I love it when a quilt comes together so beautifully.

Although this is just a simple put together, I love how all the colors worked so well. Then I found this stripe in my stash with matching colors to finish it off.

Love having a happy pattern. Especially since it is free! And what a great way to use up scraps!

A quick note about Masks

There have been requests for people who can make masks. The medical community is running out of equipment. Masks being one of them. So I would like to pass this along from the Florida Quilt Network.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

By now, I'm sure you've heard about how medical personnel are running out of equipment that will keep them safe, and I'm thinking its going to get worse before it gets better.  I love how everyone is mobilizing to this effort: beer makers are switching to making hand sanitizer, my daughter's favorite clothing company in California is switching their work to face masks for the near future, etc.  Hubby is wondering about CPAP machines...seems they are pretty close to ventilators, can't someone run with that idea?

Anyway, there are lots of patterns out there, but I'd like to submit to you a video I made with Kelsey Scott, our class coordinator at The Sewing Studio.  I'm making bunches of these today for my doctor who called asking for enough for her staff. She will be using them as covers for their dwindling supply of N-95 masks.

I also ordered some of these air filters which I will use inside the next batch of face masks I make.  These actually filter out viruses, according to the package.

Stay inside, think happy thoughts, pray for your community, eat healthy and take care of you and yours!!
