Sad to say

 All of my plans and preparing for Hands2Help will need to be postponed this year.  I had  several quilt tops ready to quilt but since my injury to my shoulder, they won't get quilted.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

I was trying to fix something in the fish pond and I slipped. Broke my shoulder. Thankfully no surgery, just a sling.

Wow! What a fantastic and enthralling story. Elizabeth Camden has done it again!

Count Dimitri Sokolov witnesses a devastating and deadly incident while overseeing the building of the Trans-Siberian Railway. He is stripped of his title, lands and freedom in order to silence him. Sent to a penal colony, he escapes and makes his way across the wilds of Russia to America, to find his friend and colleague Natalia Blackstone. Certain that she can stop the Railroad from being built to attract the attention of the Czar and the devastating atrocity.  

The story is brilliantly set in Russia, New York and DC. The two heroes are masterfully portrayed in strength of will, passion and deep friendship. As always Camden does an amazing job of research in history, intertwined with fiction. You don't need to be a history lover to love this book.

Sheets for backing

For years I had been told you never use sheets for backing a quilt. So I would struggle with piecing backing for large quilts. But I found this article  by Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs, and put that thought to rest.

Flat Sheets as Quilt Backings

And do you know how many full size flat sheets I have passed up that are ridiculously inexpensive? No one has full size beds anymore, but they are still available to purchase. Also I have vintage sheets that are soft from washing. 

So are we going to give it a try? Would you use vintage sheets for backing?
