 I decided to change up the baby quilt I've been working on. Because of time constraints, I chose to use a panel for the highlight.

I think it mixes well with the colors of the 5" squares. I don't think the baby will mind.

Matthew's Quilt

When I was a new quilter in 1985 I took a quilting class at the local craft store. Back then we were taught how to cut out the pieces with scissors and used cardboard templates. Towards the end of the class, our teacher showed us a tool that looked like a pizza cutter. She told us this was a Rotary Cutter and would speed cutting time. Of course we all laughed and said it could not take the place of scissors! HA!

About that same time, my sister in law took a class at a quilt shop. She learned Eleanor Burns Quilt in A Day pattern for the Log Cabin. She shared with me how quick and easy it was to use this method. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.

"Matthew's Quilt" was started back around 1986. I purchased 100% cotton fabrics from a quilt shop. My plan was to make a quilt for my then toddler son. We worked on the Log Cabin pattern, and I completed the top. It was my goal to hand quilt this quilt.

So I started working on it, but did not make very speedy progress. As a matter of fact it was not completed until 2004!

This is one of my favorite quilts and the only one I hand quilted. It was fun to work on, and I love how the colors all worked together.

I wanted to share this one in honor of my son's birthday.

Duckling, Duckling, Go

A new grandbaby has arrived. My friends daughter lost a baby girl last year. They were all heartbroken. The precious baby lived only a few days before she left us. But the couple just recently had a little boy born to them. And I wanted to make a little quilt to welcome the newcomer.

I found this pattern and thought it would make up quickly.

It is Duckling, Duckling, Go by Wendy Shepard. I don't like to sew all those little squares so I made strip sets and arranged them so no two the same would be touching.

They will be separated to make room for the little duckys.

So on I go to make little Ducklings.

Lost no more. Easy solution

 I frequently have a hard time finding my new sewing machine needles. They get lost in the shuffle of a drawer. So I decided I would fix that problem.

I purchased an inexpensive peg board from the Dollar Tree.

Along with the pegboard hooks and a small shelf.

Found a spot on the wall in my sewing room and set things up.

All set up and ready to go. Now I can find my sewing machine needles and the extra 40th Anniversary rotary that I am always looking for :-) Got everything I needed for under $5.
