Fabric storage

This weekend I went with my daughter to IKEA. She was looking for bookcases for her room. She found these Billy bookcases

which will work perfectly for the built in look. Now the hammering starts, but for a reasonable price, it works.

While we were there, I checked out these wire basket units.

If you have ever heard Alex Anderson talk about how she stores and sorts her fabric stash, she always mentions she uses wire baskets. So I bought one to see if it would work in my stash closet. If it fits and works well, I will go back and buy a few more.

Have you ever used the wire basket system for your stash?? How do you store your fabric??

......don't tell my quilting buddies. They think I'm working on our co-operative pattern. But I'm not.

Pat from 501 Quilt Blocks sent me six 12" blocks and I am finishing them up to send to Joplin.

Are you making any quilts for Joplin?? I know of two gals that are helping those who have lost everything. Judy from Patchwork Times is taking completed quilts and distributing them when she goes into Joplin. Also the Long ladies of marie-madeline studio have a Joplin Quilt Project going, where you can send quilt tops. They will also supply you with fabric bundles if you need them. Their goal is to have the quilts ready for a fall distribution.

Come on, let's lend a hand.

Weekend Project

Isn't it great to get a project finished in a weekend? My little great niece is having a birthday next weekend, so I thought I would make her a tote bag. You can see the first one I made HERE.

Isn't it cute?? Do you think an 11 year old will like it? I had the denim fabric with the watermelons in my stash and never could figure out what to do with it. I don't have an embroidery machine, but I was able to personalize the tote with her name.

Happy 4th of July

It's nearly time to sit and watch the fireworks! In the US we are celebrating Independence Day on Monday, but I have a feeling the celebrations will be going on all weekend :-)

Sew & Tell

You might be getting tired of seeing this quilt, but I just love the colors.

So here it is, all finished, for Sew & Tell.


This is actually the first time I have pieced the back and it came out straight :-) I learned a little trick from another blog. I would always make my sandwich layers - bottom, batting, and top, and then baste. I read somewhere (and I'm sorry I can't remember where) to first spray baste your batting and your top, then find the center of your bottom piece and lay the basted pieces on top. It's best if you can pin the bottom to the rug or tape it down to the floor, whichever works best. My daughter was very happy with the quilt, and it was 99% finished when she arrived from SE Asia. Only a little bit of the binding was left to sew down.
