Happy Thanksgiving

So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart.

Wishing you a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

Pincushions that make me smile

Since Amanda Jean from Crazy Mom Quilts is sharing her amazing pin cushion collection, I thought I would show you one of mine.

I made this little fella when I bought this book a couple of years ago.

He's made from a man's shirt sleeve cuff. I couldn't resist making the happy little face. Although you can't see them very well, the ears are some funky buttons I had on hand.

And this pincushion is my all time favorite.

I used the selvages from the Anna Griffin fabric after I made a quilt for my daughter. I use this pin cushion every time I sew.

How about you? Do you have a favorite pin cushion?

Another gift

Making these pouches has become addictive. And what a great way to use up some of my stash fabric!

Part of the fun is finding charms to hang on the the zipper pull.

Found this one at Walmart.

Quick Gift Ideas

As you are well aware, Christmas is right around the corner. Need a quick gift?

There are so many wonderful tutorials out there in blog land. If you have one that you enjoy, I'd love to hear about it. But for today, grab your cuppa of coffee or hot tea and visit these interesting and informative blogs.

As always we love to read Karen's very creative Tool Time Tuesday. Check out her repurposed gift tags. I just might have to get one of those big round punches.

A while back Sew Prim Khris did a very cute tutorial on making a Needlecase. What a great gift idea for a hand quilter.

This is one of my all time favorite Travel-sized Tissue Cozy patterns. One year I made a ton of these. Kim shared her easy tutorial on "an oft traveled road".

I have all the fabric ready and waiting for this pattern by Tea Rose Home. It is a Modern Square Garden quilt.

Who couldn't use another purse in your choice of color. Bola Chica offered a tutorial on a very cute Pleated Purse. You could certainly make one for every outfit. And who wouldn't love and use this adorable Friendship bag courtesy of "p.s. I Quilt"? Or how about a lined handbag? The ever famous Zippered Pouch?

Have you got a little buddy to make a gift for? How about this TOO cute Softie doll from "60piggies".

And for all my tea loving friends, a Tea Wallet Tutorial (Is It Naptime Yet?). Perfect to stick in someone's stocking this year.

For teachers and friends. And add a Notebook Cover from "My Patchwork".

One more very cute Tote Bag.

Remember when your Mom wore an apron in the kitchen? Here are apron patterns for you to use from Tipnut.  Studio Cat Designs has lots of Free patterns. And here is a library of Free Quilting Patterns and Projects from the Quilting Gallery. All in one quick place.

I've got dozens and dozens of these tutorials bookmarked on my computer. But my purpose today was to give you one post that you can bookmark and go back to visit whenever you need a quick little gift.

Wheww... that should get you started! Now Go forth and SEW :-)

Kaleidoscope

Working with vibrant colors has been a new adventure for me. I am mostly a traditional quilter, favoring fabrics that reflect Civil War and repo colors.

But as an ambassador for Island Batik, I've been introduced to a rainbow of colors. This is one of the latest Winter fabrics called Sea Salt.

This quilt reminds me of a Kaleidoscope, with colors that whirl for attention.

I think it will make a great charity quilt.

Sea Salt

Several weeks ago a box arrived on my doorstep. It was filled with some amazing fabric.

The box practically exploded :-)

Island Batik has released their latest fabric fashions. I am always amazed at the beauty and brilliance of their fabric lines.

I gathered up a collection of the Fall/Winter fabrics that was sent to me.

Sea Salt - Sandy

Now I wonder what will happen with these bright fun fabrics.  Guess you'll just have to come back and see :-)

Let's take a peek

You know how much fun it is to visit a quilt shop. There is always a splash of creativity and inspiration.

I have not been to this quilt shop in a couple of years so I was very surprised at how they have expanded their store.

And it's always fun to soak in beautiful samples.

Yay for Happy Apple in Palm Harbor.

Happy Quilting!

Bag it!

Want to have a little fun? I found out that Elm Street Quilts is having a Bag It party. Throughout the month of November, there will be bag tutorials, giveaways and other tips.

Remember last week when I shared my post about how to put in a zipper? Here is the bag I made.

My daughter has a little friend visiting us who lives in Singapore and I thought she would enjoy a Sunshine State bag to take home. I found this Florida fabric when I visited Timeless Treasures Quilt shop in Ocala.
The Palm Tree charm came from Walmart.

Stop by Elm Street Quilts and start your own bags.
