Whoa, what a day!

Wow we have had terrible storms all day. I was not on the computer today because of the tornado warnings. The wind was blowing and the rain was coming at us sideways! Whew I am so glad all that is past.

So tonight I've been blog reading and I found a very delightful giveaway I wanted to share.

Handcrafted by Mary Ann is hosting a Spring Giveaway. She is a new to me blog, but you must go and take a look at her lovely totes.

Quilt Sue
is also having a giveaway. A copy of Schnibbles Times Two.

And have you seen the awesome Quilt Album blog hop?? Go to p.s. i quilt to read about it.

And 7 yards of fabric is nothing to sneeze about. 1 Choice 4 Quilting is the place to be.

Okay, have fun hopping around.

Happy Quilting :-)

Attention please!

There are a lot of comments around blog land that Blogger is having some issues. My son sent me this link about changes that ARE going on with Blogger. Take a look.....

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/s91GCBZqSbk/whats-new-with-blogger.html

It looks like the Official Google Blog is making some BIG changes. And they are coming soon. So don't be surprised if one morning you wake up, open your blog dashboard and everything is different. This may be the reason why some people are having trouble. I am not one that is computer savvy, so changing servers for my blog would be a daunting challenge for me. I know we don't like things like this to change, but I am going to wait it out and see what happens with Blogger.

And on another note, I have finished quilting the second and third UFO to send to Japan.

All that is left is sewing down the binding and packing up the box. This is the first time that I have used the spray adhesive for a quilt and I LOVED it!!

Wow how much easier it was to do the quilting. I happened to purchase this at JoAnn's last week when they had all their quilting notions 50% off. Thanks to Patsy Thompson for her informative DVD's. She uses the spray adhesives and shows them on her machine quilting videos.

And while I was at JoAnn's I noticed another GREAT tool!

Years ago I cut the end of my left pointer finger off while rotary cutting. At that time I found these guards and have used one ever since. It's been a long time since I've seen them, but JoAnn's had them on display with their rulers.

They were 50% off, but I would encourage you to buy one at any price. They are a safety feature that you will not be sorry to invest in.

Have a Happy Quilting day!

This is no ordinary Quilt Shop

Do you have a favorite Quilt Shop? Is there a special place that is a world of their own?

Quilts on Plum Lane is that kind of place. It is such a welcoming place for quilters to go and drink in all that cotton goodness.

Thanks for shopping with me :-)

Speeding quilter

I've been sewing and quilting, trying to get the UFO's finished up to send to Japan. I've felt like I have been speeding along.

And for the first time I used the binding I bought at JoAnn's last year.

What a time saver this has been. I do not have an AccuQuiltGO! cutter to cut binding, plus I did not have to press them. Just opened the package, and sewed it down.

Hopefully I can get three little quilts finished and in the mail.

I also thought I would write a few words on the quilt.

It seems like such a little thing to do, but it's a way to show that we care.

I hope you are able to lend a hand too.

Happy Quilting :-)

Drive by shooting

On our recent trip, I saw something I've never seen before.

I had my camera at the ready, as we were driving past these farms. I was so excited when I saw the first one on the barn, but my hubby did not slow down much, so I had to do a drive by shooting :-)

I got really tickled when my hubby said -
"I bet that lady really appreciated her husband painting that quilt for her."

WHAT!! I laughed so hard. Yeh, right, maybe he held the ladder.

That's okay, he doesn't know much about quilting, but he sure knows how to bless his wife. He bought me a Bernina for Christmas 7 years ago, no promptings, just went out and bought it ;-)

He also bought me this little jewel.

Yep, he's a keeper.

Hope you are having a great quilting day!

Spring? Really??

Okay so everyone is tired of winter, and snow. So what do Southerners do on Spring Break?? No beach for us........... we head to the mountains of West Virginia. And SNOW!!

My children love to snowboard, so as a last minute idea, we headed for the slopes.

The first glimpse of a mountain.

Yeh, yeh, we are flat landers.

Oh boy, we are going through a mountain!

See it doesn't take much to get us excited :-)

Are we there yet??

Uh, NO!

woo-hoo, we are starting to see snow on the side of the road!

Getting closer..........

We made it!

And this is the view from the window.

It had snowed the day before we arrived. It was 29 degrees the first night.

Getting ready to make a run.

I took these pictures out the back of the condo. I was not about to get out in that cold stuff ;-D

Although my hubby and I did drive up to the top one afternoon.

But we were just tourists.

The kids had a blast. It was a nice relaxing time for hubby and me too. Catching up on some reading and knitting. So there was no sewing or quilting last week. Only enjoying God's beautiful creation.

Happy Quilting!

Do you have........

......... some UFO's hanging around? Are there some stashed away in closets? Drawers? Plastic tubs? I know I do. And I'd like to ask you to do something. Find one, yes just one, and finish it. Then send it to Japan. There has been so much devistation there, it seems like it's the least we can do to lend a hand to those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Here is the post from the Quilters Newsletter blog.

Quilters Newsletter has long enjoyed a friendship with Patchwork Tsushin, a leading Japanese quilt magazine. So when Editor in Chief Naomi Ichikawa emailed to say her magazine is collecting comfort quilts for those impacted by the recent earthquake in Japan, we wanted to join the effort. QN will gather quilts from U.S. quiltmakers then forward them to Naomi and her staff, who will deliver them to those in need. (If you live outside the United States, email me as indicated below, and I will provide information on how you can send quilts directly to Naomi.)

Here’s how you can be part of this important worldwide response:

• Send quilts of any size from baby to adult to:

Dana Jones
Quilters Newsletter
741 Corporate Circle, Suite A
Golden, CO 80401

• Mark your box: “Quilts for Japan.”
• Send quilts as soon as possible and no later than April 30, 2011.
• Enclose your name, address, phone number, and email address with the quilts.

*******************************

Can we do this? I know I am going to dig out some of my UFO's and finish them up. I think it is doable before April 30th.

The quilting community is so generous. Let's share with those in need.

Happy Quilting!

Today's the day

Today is National Quilting Day! Wow, isn't it amazing that a whole day is devoted to a hobby that brings us so much fun and joy!! Go to this site to read all about it, and what you as a quilter can do to share quilting love.

And while you are at it, stop over at SewCalGal's Golden Quilter Award site and VOTE! There are so many wonderfully creative people nominated for 10 categories. This is YOUR opportunity to help recognize those that have made our world of quilting the wonderful place it is.

There are a few rules, like 1) Only one vote can be submitted per person.
2) Votes for only one of the nominees, for any/all of the ten categories.
3) Votes are accepted by leaving a comment on the voting post, by the end of day of March 31st.

And there are also lots of sponsors that will be giving prizes. Voting gives you a chance to win one of the prizes. Winners will be announced on SewCalGal's blog in early April.
