Are you running out of space??

No not for fabric.  For your pictures on blogger??  I have noticed a lot of bloggers mentioning they have reached their limit of free space on blogger.  Did you know that when blogger FORCED us to go to the new interface, your picture size doubled when publishing??  Aha, so that is why the space is being eaten up so quickly.

I found a very helpful blog post on Blue Eyed Beauty Blog.  Helen found the solution to the problem.  I now upload my pictures to Picasa and resize them to 800x600, which will NOT go against your picture count.  I also can watermark my pictures at the same time.  A double benefit.

This has been a huge blog saver for me, as I do not have a store, or sponsors.  I just enjoy blogging and sharing about my quilting and thrifting experience.

So check out Helen's post Fixing Photo Limit Problem.

And then have a Happy Quilting day!

I got a warning the beginning of this year and did some research and found out about resizing the photos. I do it all the time now.At the time I didn't even know they were being stored on Picasa.

Thanks for sharing this....

I just pay the $20 per year for unlimited pictures and don't worry about it. It seems a small price to pay for the enjoyment I get from it. If I give up 4 cups of coffee at Starbucks, I'm even.

Thanks for the suggestion--I haven't hit the limit yet, but good to know that there's a solution! :)

Seriously! I didn't know that was a problem to worry about! How do you know what your limit is and is this why a lot of my fellow bloggers are switching to Wordpress or Typepad?? In a panic mode right now, but thanks for the heads up, XOXO

I knew about the limit and the fact that I should be sizing my photos a bit smaller than I am, but sometimes I'm just in too much of a hurry to get a post done (or maybe I'm just lazy)! Thanks for the specific size info - I'll start doing that right away!

You can also resize your old pictures to free up space (most of them are probably way bigger than they need to be.)

Go to picasaweb.google.com. If you scroll all the way to the bottom you'll see your current space allotment and usage. Go into you blogger folder and click on a picture you want to resize. Go to the "actions" drop down and choose "edit in creative kit" and you can resize from there.

Thanks so much for the tip! This just happened to me and I went on a picture-deleting spree - ugh. I'm not paying, no way!

I don't use Picassa so this may not be an issue for me. I will start resizing my photos (in Photobucket) before uploading them on Blogger just in case.

Thanks so much for the info and the link to the blog post!

To beaquilter: when you are editing a specific photo at the bottom of the screen you should be able to click "export" and from there you can choose "resize to" and move the bar so it says "800 pixels".

To Susan: people switch over for different reasons. Basically the only real benifit of changing over is that you have to purchase a domain which you CAN do on the blogger platform and it will solve all problems. Don't panic though, this is an easy problem to solve and becomes a natural habit to resize your pics. You can also use picmonkey.com to resize online for free.

I really need to resize my existing photos. I knew about resizing photos to save space, but it was one more step to do and I got lazy. This is great into and I didn't know that 800 x600 size photo doesn't count in your Picasa album. Great info to know. I also try and use URL and HTML codes when I can as this doesn't use up photo space.

I too have no sponsors or store to sell things, so I want to keep my blogging free or else I will have to have put annoying ads on my blog to help pay for keeping my blog going. Hopefully it won't come to that!
