As I mentioned yesterday, I had never noticed quilts hanging in this part of the library before. Next time I'm in, I will ask if this was a special display or permanent. Here are some of the quilts that denote scenes from our area.
The Tampa area was noted for it's Cuban Cigar factories. It was a mainstay and employment for many immigrants who came to Tampa from Cuba back in the early 1900's.
Plant City is known for it's amazing strawberries.
Parkesdale Farms is widely known for their strawberry shortcake and strawberry shakes. A very busy place in February.
The University of Tampa was once the Tampa Bay Hotel built by railroad magnate Henry B. Plant in 1888. It was turned into a university in 1941 after the hotel had been defunct for many years. The minarets are fashioned after the Moorish Revival architecture.
The St. Petersburg Pier is a five story inverted structure with a tubular steel framework created with large windows for panoramic
views of Tampa Bay and a larger top floor and observation deck
, built in 1973.
The Sunshine Skyway bridge is a cable stayed suspension bridge that spans from Pinellas County to Manatee County. The Travel Channel rated the Sunshine Skyway Number 3 in it's special "Top Ten Bridges in the World."
Construction of the Hotel Floridan began in 1926. The hotel's bar, the Sapphire Room, was a popular nightspot during World
War II for servicemen who were training at nearby Drew Field to fly
B-17s over Europe.
The current hotel maintains many original features of the hotel. The
hotel had 400 small rooms during the 1940s. The rooms were expanded
during the renovations into 213 larger rooms including 15 suites and 3
penthouses
I do not have any information about this hotel, but I don't think it is from our area. It's quite a unique quilt.

Beautiful quilts! I haven't seen the new Sunshine Skyway in person yet. The last time I was in Florida was just before it was built.
