After the Shadows

Emily Leland returns to the town of Sweetwater Crossing Texas after her husband has been killed. She has no love loss from the cruel man she married a year ago. Left with nothing but her horse, she returns to face her angry sister, and a mystery about her fathers death.

New school teacher Craig Ferguson comes to town with his young son to find the house he was to live in burned. Emily, alone and broke, is forced to convert her home into a boardinghouse which causes her relationship with her sister to spiral downward.

Amanda Cabot writes such compelling stories. Her characters are well developed, with emotions that are vulnerable as they touch on delicate situations.  Even though Emily and Craig must face their grief, it is a sweet love story, clean with faith as their bond.

The Metropolitan Affair

The Metropolitan Affair is set in New York City in the 1920's.

Dr. Lauren Westlake is an Assistant curator in the Metropolitan Museum.   She has had an interest in Egyptology since she was a child, trying to follow in her absent father's footsteps. Her relationship with her father is difficult. So when he offers for her to travel with him on an exhibition to Egypt she tries to restore what was broken.

Joe Caravello is a NYPD detective seeking out a ring of forgers selling fake Egyptian artifacts. He asks Lauren to help him find the forgeries that are being sold to the wealthy.

This is a story you will not want to miss. The story is engaging and page turning. The characters are well written. The mystery is captivating until the end. Good, clean romance with historical research about ancient Egypt and NYC during that time. Jocelyn Green masterfully told the story of family, grief and loss, and faith.

So in love

Have you ever had a piece of fabric that you fell in love with. As I was going though my stash, using up fabric for the nursing home quilts, I came across a MODA fabric that I bought years ago. It was elegant and beautiful. And if felt like silk. I decided to use it, with some corrdianting fabric to make a small lap quilt.

A close up

It was just so lovely. And soft. I never had a piece of MODA that felt like silk before.
The coordinating fabrics were from the same line.

The great thing is there is enough of the floral fabric for backing.

Fairest of Heart

Karen Witemeyer never disappoints.  Her latest story, Fairest of Heart, is a testament of that.

Penelope Snow is an orphan that was taken in by a teacher. When she becomes the assistant to a famous actress, she must hid her assets, wearing shapeless dresses and keeping her head low. Her beauty is unsurpassed. But as an unexpected happenstance, she is revealed and her jealous mistress has Penelope removed, with nothing but her underclothes, to be disposed of.

Texas Ranger Titus Kingsley has been wary of beautiful women. His brother lost his life over an infatuation with a beautiful woman and Titus has been hardened ever since.

This was such a great story. I loved the seven grandfathers that take Penelope in as she learns to trust again. The characters were so well written. And the emotions brought you to understand many of the former situations that affected each of the characters. The banter was delightful and the love story well  played out.

This is definitely a must read if you enjoy a good story. I love how Witemeyer weaves how God is working in their lives. All in all it's a beautiful well written story. What we have come to expect from Ms. Witemeyer.

It's a classic

This sweet pink goodness is over at Cluck Cluck Sew?? It's a Pink Classic Hourglass quilt and you can find a tutorial HERE.

And being that I am a Pinkaholic, I just had to dig out some pink and brown fabrics and make my own version.

I do think I will add a little border. I'll have this little baby quilt whipped up in no time :-)

I hope there is sunshine in your neck of the woods. Happy Quilting!

Tradition

My daughter has been working in South Korea this year and has sent me several beautiful pictures.

I wanted to share a picture of her dressed in a traditional Korean dress she wore when she and a friend visited the palace.

 Isn't the dress beautiful?

Second Time Around

Second Time Around by Melody Carlson is set by the ocean in Oregon.

When Mallory Farrell inherits her grandmothers tourist shop it is her chance to start over. As an interior designer, she decides to renovate the shop and the apartment above it.

Grayson Matthews comes to Mallory's rescue when her first contractor reneges on the job. But with a television crew coming, she needs to swallow her pride and let Grayson work his magic.

A sweet easy read. Clean, contemporary Christian based romance. A real feel good story. Melody Carlson is an expert on writing believable characters.

Binding my time

Sewing binding by machine has been a real time saver for the Nursing Home quilts.

I have five quilts quilted and bound ready for the residents.

A friend gave me some really pretty patriotic fabric, so I made a quick quilt with it.

Even had enough fabric to use for backing.

So sad

Have you ever seen a pattern made up and fell in love with it on sight?

I saw this pattern made up at a local quilt shop. When I asked about it, they were sold out. But told me I could order it online.

So I ordered the pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I thought I would be able to use a layer cake that I won over at the Villa Rosa Quilts blog hop.

Unfortunately it does not use a layer cake. And it has a lot of different size squares to cut from fabric. Some as many as 94!  Have you ever had something like this happen? I don't think there would be enough fabric in the layer cake to make the pattern work. And I'm not real good at converting sizes.
