Michaels or Hobby Lobby?

Okay let's get real here. With the closing of JoAnn's, we as crafters and quilters have been thrown under the bus. Not only for fabric but other things like notions and patterns/books.  Although they do not have a big selection, I have purchased fabric from Hobby Lobby in the past. They would offer 40% off every other week on their fabrics. Which was a great buy for medium priced fabric. However they recently have gone to 30% off and not every other week.

So what gives? Their new fabric is coming at 11.99 and 12.99 a yard. Huh??

I have also gone to Michaels. Their fabric run from 3.99 to 7.99 a yard.

Which to me is a much more affordable than what Hobby Lobby is offering. And I think with Michaels buying JoAnn's intellectual property we will be seeing more fabric coming into their stores. I do not have an excess amount of money for fabric, so I have always had to buy sales to mount up my stash. And I do not think I am making heirloom quilts for the generations to come ;-)

So what do you think peeps? Is it just a coincidence that Hobby Lobby raised their prices and lowered their % off just when JoAnn's is no longer in business? Please don't shoot the messenger. I have never had a problem buying from HL. However I probably will think twice before buying fabric from them anymore. The more we support Michaels, the more they will provide affordable fabric.

I know I will be checking out Michael's supply, and sometimes HL, but I am not happy they lowered their % off.

I'm perturbed that JoAnns is gone - if you are a grament-maker, where else is there? I buy sales cotton fabric at my LQS when possible, esp. for backings at $7/yd, which is similar ro HL. But I can never get the HL sale days coordinated with my need to ""get to town". For me, HL and myLQS are in totally diff. directions - can't do both on same day, must choose.

I also miss JoAnn's. I rarely bought fabric since the quality wasn't good. I did buy batting, rotary blades, pins, and other sewing notions. I recently went to a Michaels in Iowa and was very disappointed. All that was available were bundles, no yardage on bolts. I guess we'll have to use what we have already.

Be patient. Michaels is still working out the JoAnn's Intellectual properties and they may still supply stores with yardage.

I am a firm believer the more creative stores there are the more choices we all have and the better prices. I too miss JoAnns, but not all Michaels carry fabric yardage. A couple of sources I think we should all be aware of: Quilt In a Day allows creatives to special order just about anything from their distributor at a 25% discount, which can be a great deal. Next, closely monitor online sales (eg QIAD, Fat Quarter Shop, Missouri Star, Hancock Fabrics, etc). Lastly, Rosies Calico Cupboard in San Diego, CA doesn't have an online store, but their prices are discounted and you can schedule facetime shopping with their staff, or let them know what colors/styles of fabrics you are looking for, or notions.

Our Michaels doesn't sell Fabric, I've heard fabric mart is good for ordering but I haven't tried them
