I think this is one of my favorite places. I think every town has a little red school house, but this one is special.
That's because my dear hubby went to this little red school house :-)
Can't you just see them doing a fire drill, and kids pouring out of the building, charging down these steps. I imagine it was a day to remember (poor teachers)!
And of course playing out in this green field, or eating lunch on the grass.
There was a huge controversy when the road was going to be widened. The county wanted to move the school, but there was almost an uprising over this issue. The school has since been placed on the National Historical Registry, so it may now rest in peace.
Thanks for joining me in a little tour. I'd love to show you more, but being that this is a quilting blog, I better not push it. More quilt posts to come ;-)

I went to an old red school house just like that . It was the high school for yrs. and than they built a new high school and turned the old red school into an elem. I went there 1st thur 6th grade. It had a big tall slide for a fire exit. It looked like a corn silo from the outside. It was fun doing drills because we got to slide down . The building had three stories. So it was great.

I love seeing your area. They tore down the old high school in my hometown-the one my dad graduated from and the one he attended. In the town where I live that made the old high school into Senior citizen apartments. They even left the old blackboards in some of them. I'm sure it brings back memories for some of the residents.
In our area there are little white prairie one-room school houses that were also used for church and pot lucks and dances. Most have been moved to "town" as part of the historical societies but there are some that are still used as gathering places.

My elementary, jr. high, and high school have all been torn down! Sad! Well, the high school I went to my freshman year was torn down. I started in a new school my sophomore year. It's old now.
I am glad that people cared enough about the school house so it wouldn't be moved. It just would not have been the same.
My elementary school was a red brick building but we didn't have grass around it. Instead, we had asphalt. But it was surrounded by beautiful trees lining the sidewalks. Thanks for the memory Jocelyn.
Love it! I'm so glad it wasn't moved. Is it being used for anything?
Brings back memories of where my mother went to school and eventually I attended for a short while.
very very cute!
