This weekend I went with my daughter to IKEA. She was looking for bookcases for her room. She found these Billy bookcases
which will work perfectly for the built in look. Now the hammering starts, but for a reasonable price, it works.While we were there, I checked out these wire basket units.
If you have ever heard Alex Anderson talk about how she stores and sorts her fabric stash, she always mentions she uses wire baskets. So I bought one to see if it would work in my stash closet. If it fits and works well, I will go back and buy a few more.Have you ever used the wire basket system for your stash?? How do you store your fabric??

I have that exact wire system and that shelf but the 4 cubicle one and I butted them together and I have a row of 4 of them which houses all my baskets, books and fabrics. You will love it.
Looks like they will work wonderfully.I am about to do a fabric move about here too. Closet is not working as is for my fabric. Not all is in there but need to rethink it is all...;-)

I have these same wire basket units too. They are also stackable. I have some in my closet for fabric and I keep one in my room for my UFO's.
I don't use wire baskets, but I do get my storage from ikea - I use the expedit shelving. LOVE it. deep enough for two stacks of yardage or three fat quarter bundles, if stacked nicely. :)
I've never used the baskets, but I use the cheapest clear totes I can find....the big flatter ones or the fat quarters, and the big deep ones for my strips.....yardage is on shelves. I had used a closet before, but it was too dark to see much, so I find it much easier to see my fabrics when they are all against the wall on shelves and bins.

I love Ikea, but having a sweetie who builds, he made me some just a bit deeper than those at Ikea. Lovely stuff for all occasions at Ikea
I like those Billy shelves they are a good depth.
I had seen the currogated plastics boards in the store and with my stash it would have cost too much to put my fabric on those, but I wanted something where I could make mini bolts, I have a HUGE stash, you can see some old pictures on webshots, look under materialgirl522.
I have moved from there and now store my fabric in cabinets in a spare bedroom, after finding Maryjo's in Gastonia NC, my stash exploded.
But I store mine on shelves with doors, and each piece is folded selvage to fold and then rolled/folded onto a Comic book board, you can get them for about $7 for 100 boards, MUCH cheaper than 2.95 for the plastic currogated specialty boards.
Those wire baskets are new to me, how many fat quarters do you suppose one basket would hold? I like the looks of them, so much easier to see your fabric as opposed to the plastic bins I use. Plus the fabric wouldn't have the icky plastic smell.

This is the exact storage I use in my sewing room. I just went upstairs and counted and I have 12. I've had them for over a year and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! I have all of my fabric standing on edge so I can see exactly what I have when I open the drawers.
I have an armoire from Ikea that I use for storing fabrics. Have been toying about picking up another one, but I have a very small sewing room. Still, I love IKEA.

Oh how I wish we had an IKEA that wasn't 3 hours away!! All of my stast is in a closet so I can shut the door and not let the light on it.

So far, I store my fabrics in large plastic buckets. I've purchased a 3 drawer and a 4 drawer plastic unit that I'm moving some fabrics into.
Actually I use the Billy cabinets to store my fabric stash. I have a wall of Billy bookcases (3 narrow and 4 wide) and I fold the fabrics by color. The smaller pieces/fat quarters are in bins (see through show boxes) that are stored on the Billy cabinet shelves.
