I agree with Ferne. The blue changes the look to Xs and 16 patches. I like the scrappy one better where the points feel like a continuation of the 16 patches.
I love the pattern and either way is going to be awesome. I actually think the all scraps is a bit toned down. When you throw in the solids there is a lot of contrast between scrappy and not scrappy which at least for me, commands my attention and straightens up my back a little :) Beautiful if that's the impact you want to meke. The other one just lets my eye wonder around all those X's. I'm going to have to try this pattern., just great.
I love the scrappy blocks all laid out like that! And I personally don't like the blue points. I think it detracts from the pattern. But that's just my opinion! :0)
I made a similar mystery quilt a while back, went scrappy and used a solid blue for the first border. If you want to take a peek... http://quiltawhile.blogspot.com/2012/06/this-weeks-goal-quilt-mq6.html
I'm right up there with everyone else.I don't think it looks too busy I just love that I'm not the only one that agonizes over such decisions. And isn't it great that we can bounce ideas off others and get feedback. I like best what Pokey said - to keep playing with it till it makes you smile. Yep. That's what I'd do.
I was going to say stay with the scrappy too...also stopping by from COnfessions of a Fabric...to meet another none FB. (We use to get so much pressure too!) I'm a GFC follower but added ya to my blogroll. Stop by: myplvl.blogspot.com
at first I liked scrappy but then I think the blue gives it order. The problem is you don't have a big enough area of blue done to really see the graphic effect. This is where the computer design eq types have the advantage. LeeAnna Paylor lapaylor.blogspot.com

You know how it goes, keep playin' with it until it makes you smile! I like it with the patchwork pieces, but My stuff usually goes scrappy ~
:-}pokey
Hummmm, like it both ways and makes it look different too. Guess you will have to play and see where you go with it.
I like the scrappy but then anything with scraps gets my attention! I have also been working on my Irene quilt!!
The madness and the JOY of choosing colors!! LOL! blessings ~ tanna
It's a tough call... I prefer the scrappy look... but that's me!
I like the pattern that the scrappy looks makes the blue just makes it look like X's and squares.
Scrappy for me!
I think the scrappy is great and imo its not too much with the bold white Xs.

I think I prefer the "scrappy" version too, but it is fun to play around isn't it? I'm at the point where I'm re-thinking my whole quilt. :)

I love your quilt! Definitely keep the scrappy one, not the blue. Don't overthink it, that's the mistake I make all the time :)

I like the scrappy version! I have one of those on my design wall too :) Thanks for sharing.

Personally I would go Scrappy - but we all like different "looks"! That is the fun of patchwork. Go with what you think looks best ....!
I have not started mine because I have not decided on colors. Seeing your possibilities, I like the scrappy look best. Good luck!
