Good Morning peeps! What great information you all are sharing with me. It's lovely to hear the experience of others, especially when it comes to ordering anything online. I'm glad to hear that most of you have had good experiences with online purchases. Sadly so many brick and mortar quilt shops have been closing their doors. The price of fabric plus the cost of fuel can make one hesitant to travel very far to a local shop. But there is still something about actually seeing and touching fabric that entices many of us.

And I do have a question for you. With so many patterns available on the Youtube and pdf, are you still subscribing to Quilting magazines? I used to be subscribed to several. But over the years it appears that most magazines just rewrite the same patterns over and over. For years I subscribed to American Patchwork and Quilting. I think I have some of the very first issues. But once, after my subscription expired, they no longer sent any renewal notices. No letters saying "hey we miss you and want you back." So I reevaluated my need for so many magazines. Most recently I've let everything go except for one. And Primitive Quilts sent me an offer I couldn't refuse, so I thought I'd give them a try.
So tell me, do you still buy quilting magazines? Do you prefer paper or internet versions? What do you do with your old magazines? I'm currently going through the massive collection and passing on the ones I would never use.

For years I had several subscriptions and found that I never made a quilt from any of them. So I stopped renewing. Now I buy one issue at a time if something appeals to my quilty inner child. Digital issues aren't very user friendly in my opinion. I lost several digital issues when my last computer crashed. Thanks for a chance to win a copy of the one magazine I buy when a new one comes out.

I discontinued all my subscriptions when it started to feel like they were busier selling fabric lines then new quilting ideas.
Tone I am most likely to pick up is Quiltmaker and its the only one that temps me to renew.
And Old fashioned that I am I want a hard copy...to bend fold mutilate, loan or stash as I wish.
I still subscribe to Quilter's Newsletter Magazine -- not for patterns, but for news in the quilt world. I like a hard copy; and have saved every issue since the l970s -- I have a bunch, and don't know what to do with them, but still hang on to them. Oh, my!!!! Sally

I do still subscribe to a quilt magazine. I do prefer the paper directions rather than online, but do use computer patterns too.
hello my name is Ellyn and I am addicted to Magazines. seriously. Like in a bad way. I agree, many magazines seem to be just recreating the same old crap. Recently I am hooked on some of the British mags, Quilt Now and Love Patchwork and Quilting. I buy them at Barnes and Noble and tend to hoard them. it's a problem really!

Before I started making quilts, I subscribed to several magazines on a variety of topics. Our home was overrun with them. I found that I didn't really have enough time to read all of them so I donated what I could and recycled the rest.
When I began making quilts I accepted a "trial" subscription to a quilt magazine...can't remember which one but it wasn't interesting enough for me to renew. I am quite happy with buying quilt books, individual patterns and online. YouTube is a great resource for me too.
I don't subscribe to any quilt magazines. Occasionally I'll buy one if there is a quilt or two I'd like to make. Instead of keeping the entire magazine, I tear out what I want to keep and put those pages in a notebook. No preference between paper or internet.
I am like you. For years I have subscribed to quilting magazines and have let all my subscriptions run out. I do not get any notices about wanting me to subscribe anymore either. I get most of my patterns off of the internet or if I really like a pattern I will buy it. thanks for the great giveaway.

I have two subscriptions right now. That is the max I allow myself at any time. I love having the magazine to flip through at the bus stop and on the train to work. It is a short trip, so I don't like reading a book. It is much easier to look through a magazine and dream of all the quilts I want to make!

I still get Quiltmaker and I added Block but that is the only 2 I get.
I get a couple of magazines in the mail. I'm like a little kid on Christmas morning every time one comes! I get so excited. And then there are those moments I get when I start to pass by a magazine rack in stores. I have to stop and look. Sometimes I buy, sometimes I leave them for someone else. I peruse those magazines I get either in the mail or from a store over and over. Then I put them in magazine holders. There are times I have gone through my collection a found something that sparks my interest or a color combination that jumps out at me and gives me inspiration. I am just going to join a quilting club here at my new home. I went to visit them today just to get an idea of what they do. They do have a give away shelf, so I am thinking that I will find new homes for some of the magazines I am no longer looking at. Just in case...my email addy is: momacita22(at)yahoo(dot)com
I l subscribe to one Popular Patchwork but always buy Stitch the Embroiderers Guild magazine and then check out at least once a week what the newsagent has and often pick up quilting ones, must curb the spending though as I have such a long list of things I want to stitch without seeing any more new projects too tempt me
Yes I still purchase the hard copy of magazines. I keep all of mine and I have been quilting for over 25 years. I also download quilt patterns from the internet. I went through my magazines the other day I am planning to donate some. Thank you for the giveaway.
I subscribed to American Patchwork & Quilting for a number of years. While I enjoy the magazine, I decided I didn't need to have a subscription. I asked my local library to consider subscribing, and they have done so.

I no longer have any magazine subscriptions. Occasionally I buy a quilt magazine at the store if there's a pattern that interests me.
I quit subscribing because I was so disappointed. Quilting styles have kind of changed but at same time we see that same "star" design sized differently and maybe a different setting that I can figure out on my own. At same time though....love having a coffee in hand an thumb through the magazines while at the book stores. Now and then something will strike my fancy so I purchase it. I do collect Quiltmaker Block magazines but don't have the latest one. Many quilt acquaintances through blogging submit their blocks...always fun to see them and their names in print!
Another thing....the internet is a wealth of FREE patterns whether o blogs, Instagram or Pinterest. With so much FREE...why buy? Times have certainly changed.
I subscribe to several magazines, but not as many as I used to as I think some have gone downhill in quality content. I have a couple that I keep every issue of, and the others I tear out the patterns or pictures I might be interested in and keep organized in folders.
The only quilting magazine I subscribe to is Quilter's Newsletter which I've been getting since the 70's. I have made several quilts from it over the years.

I don't have any quilt magazine subscriptions. Our guild has a book and magazine sale at our quilt shows. I tend to find issues that I like, and, I get them for almost nothing. I've downloaded so many free patterns (that I'll never have time to make) that I don't have time to read many magazines. Hey, I did order some fabric this morning from Ft. Worth Fabric Studio http://www.fortworthfabricstudio.com/ I've ordered from them before. My order has already been shipped out.
Hi, I have bought a few magazines for ideas, but so far I have been just doing my own thing. I'm an artist and being able to be free with my creations has always been my thing. I have fallen in love with the hexie and am trying to incorporate it into my quilts, but I've kind of just been flying by the seat of my pants, LOL

I don't buy quilting magazines anymore. I have so many quilt books to choose patterns from. All marked, but so far haven't made many of them. I sometimes use the internet, but mainly make simple patchwork quilts, and don't really need a pattern for them. I do prefer paper patterns to internet versions. Always like a hard copy of most anything.

I still have a subscription to 1 mag. as it has been a birthday gift for years from a dear friend. I quit taking many for the same reason you gave. New fabric does not make it a new quilt. I love paper, but also digital as long as it is something new or something that inspires. I will buy a mag. at the store if it has more than 1 good pattern in it.
I do still have about 5 different magazines come to my door. I like the turning of pages and being able to sit and look at the mag while watching grandkids. :)

I do not subscribe to any magazines at all. I did inherit a large collection of quilting magazines and after I went through them, I donated them to our textile center lending library.
I've let all my subscriptions to quilting magazines expire. Sometimes I buy one when I'm at the grocery store, but then I realize I like the quilts I design a lot better than the ones in magazines, and I realize that I just got pulled in by the beautiful fabrics in the beautiful photos. For a while I told myself I couldn't buy a quilt magazine unless I would make at least one quilt from it, even if I modified it to be a different size.
I also realized that whenever I subscribed to a magazine I really liked, there were so many editorial changes made that I no longer liked it--and I grew very bored with all the quilts made from only squares and rectangles and the fact that the magazine was more about selling kits than about sharing ideas. And I do understand that with so many new quilters coming onboard every year, it's hard for a magazine to find it's niche--especially with so many of them being owned by just a few companies.

I receive a lot of quilt magazines. I find them wonderful travel companions. I don't especially like the online versions. I like the feel of the paper in my hands. I go over them again and again. I don't always make the quilts but I learn a lot about colors, design and how to put things together.
I have let most of my quilt magazine subscriptions expire...seems like most were the same patterns only done a little differently in the new fabric lines. I pick one up every now and then if it has something new and exciting in it, but otherwise I get most of my ideas and patterns online.
I still have a few magazine subscriptions! I like reading some of the articles and seeing the quilt pictures. My favorite one is Quiktmaker. I have a big collection that I like to look through every so often, so I keep them organized by dates.
