Giveaway Day Two

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions about quilt shops around the country. I will be making my list, and if we are ever close to these shops, I will definitely be seeking them out.

Today is Orange day :-) I have never used orange much in my sewing or quilting, so I am gathering up my little orange stash and passing it on to one of you.

Wouldn't this make a delightful start to your Fall sewing?  In light of that, just for the fun of it, I am going to help you out and include a Fall pattern.

I love to decorate for Fall. The warm colors prepare us for the bleak days of winter.

Today when you leave a comment, tell me if you order fabric online. Are you happy with your purchases? Which company do you like the best. I've ordered from several and the only trouble I've had is seeing the true color and value of fabric. I guess I've always enjoyed touching and feeling the fabric.

You know the drill. Leave a comment on this post. If you are one of my lovely followers, let me know and leave a second comment. Please be sure I have a way of making contact with you. If you are on Google+ there is no way for me to respond unless you leave your email addy.

Happy Quilting!

I have never ordered fabric online! I'm mostly a scrap quilter. My greatest thrill is finding a bag of quilt material at a yard sale. The yardage I do purchase is mostly for backings. My supply of orange is very small!! Thanks for the chance.

Have been following your blog for quit sometime. I mostly sit in the back of the room and don't say much!!!

While I have ordered fabric on Line (I like Connecting Threads a lot) I prefer to touch and feel and SEE the fabric in real time!

I've ordered from Connecting Threads and fabric.com,but really prefer to see and feel the fabric in person. Computer monitors can be very fickle when it comes to color shading. I love a touch of orange or yellow in a quilt, seems to give them a special sparkle.

I have learned to love orange. And autumn is my favorite time of year. Hugs

Podunk Pretties said...

Our LQS has a little of everything, and the selection rarely changes so if I want the new fabrics I buy online. I tend to buy from the same designer when purchasing on line that way I know the colors will match what I've ordered in the past.

I do shop online. Nancy's Notions has a big batik sale once a year that I just can't pass up. Connecting Threads...when they have a sale I stock up on 10 yard pieces for quilt backs. There is always leftover for stash building that way. Thousands of Bolts...I order the most thru them. Some of the fabric is good, some I can't imagine that I picked out. LOL, but it all seems to get used up. Your right about seeing and touching.

I order on line mostly from Whittles Fabrics, A Thousand Bolts and only one nut, Missouri Quilt Co. Every once in a while I get a fabric that wasn't quite what I thought it would be color wise but that is rare.

I love getting packages in the mail.. Like a little kid on Christmas..

I've ordered from Missouri Star Quilt, Fat Quarter Shop, Bear Creek Quilting, Southern Fabric, Shabby Fabric and Old Country Store. I also have a couple of shops I order from that carry fabric most shops don't. I've never had a problem with the delivery time or service. If I have a problem it's usually the color is off a bit. I try and counter that by checking pictures on various sites before I order.

I also tend to shop online for a fabric that I just have to have and can't find locally.

I have ordered fabric online in the past and have come away with mixed feelings as to the end results. For the most part I have been happy with my purchases but I have had the misfortune of ordering what I thought to be a good quality product only to receive fabric that was less than adequate.

While making a quilt a few weeks ago, I found that I am sadly lacking in oranges and purples. I had to use some different oranges to finish the blocks. I do like orange, I just don't tend to use it. I seldom order fabric online, unless I just can't find it locally. I like to keep my LQS' in business, and, I like to 'see' the fabric in person.

Jen said...

My favorite color - orange!! I have ordered online from Hancock's of Paducah, Marshall's dry goods, Fabric.com, and maybe a few others. I usually order value-priced fabric (that means sale fabrics - lol) and go for the lower priced shipping where available. I figure I would spend that much in gas to get to the stores in my area and there is more of a selection online at my fingertips.

I have ordered from FQS and have always been pleased with order. I just placed an order with Connecting Threads, so am anxious to see it in 'real life'. LOL My LQS's are all a bit of a drive, so I have to plan my trip with multiple projects in mind. Thanks for the fun! I do love orange!

Sandy said...

I rarely order online. I love going to the quilt shop and touching the fabric. Love the color orange.

I have ordered fabric online from several shops with no problems. I usually know the fabric line and quality and the reputation of the shop. I have loved each purchase, just wish I had more money!(Don't ask if I have sewed with them; they are special!!)

I do order fabrics online. I only order from Missouri Quilts. That started because they offer an exceptionally good deal each day and I started getting charm packs from them. Shipping is always five dollars, so that's a savings when you order more. I have three beautiful charm packs sitting here next to me right now that I ordered from them. Island Batiks in Sunkissed, Daybreak and Juicy Jewels. I love the packs I got.
My biggest problem with ordering online is the color thing as well. But, oh well, I have added to my stash and if I can't use the fabrics in one place I will be able to find something to do with them!

Loretta said...

I occasionally buy fabric online, but I really like to see it and touch it in person. Also, sometimes the colors aren't the same on the monitor as they are in person, so can be hard to match colors.

I only order fabric online when I absolutely have to and since our LQS closed a few years ago, I find that I have to order online more often. My all-time very favorite online store is the Fat Quarter Shop. Their prices are competitive and their packaging is absolutely perfect! Plus, there is always a little something extra in the box :)

Janarama said...

I do order fabric online and my favorite place to order is Hancocks of Paducah. I used to order a lot from fabric.com, but since Amazon now owns fabric.com I no longer order from them. Since the takeover by Amazon if you order a half yard of fabric the price is no longer half the price of a full yard. They now charge approximately 3/4 of the price of a full yard of fabric for half yard cuts. So if a yard of fabric is $9.48 and you only want a half yard, they charge you $7.11. Totally outrageous! I also heard their customer service has also gone downhill.

I've bought fabric online from The Fat Quarter Shop a couple of times, but I prefer to touch the fabric first! But I'll accept free fabric! Thanks for a chance to win.

I like to look at fabric online but unless it's something I've already seen in real life I don't like to buy online often. I have ordered Liberty fabric from Alice Caroline though and I can't fault the service. Thanks for the chance to win :) x mrskatymarriott at gmail dot com

Emily C said...

I order online very little. Every time I order online the colors in person do not match the online picture. For example, I bought some beautiful bright medium blue dragonfly print, that turned out to be a dark navy blue. I actually like them better in person, but they do not match the other fabrics for my project. Another difficulty is shipping. Typically the cost of shipping outweighs any sale price i'm looking at and I can drive to my local quilt shop and see the fabric in person.

Ooo, ooo! I LOVE orange!!! I do order online and sometimes it looks like what I ordered, other times not so much. :-( I don't really have a fav--just get onto quiltshops.com and generally start scanning sales. Thanks for the chance at some beautiful oranges, just in time for fall (I cannot believe I'm saying that!!).

I don't have a lot of orange in my stash, either! Would love to add to mine.

I am a big orange fan, this has happened since i started quilting, green is my favourite colour followed by orange. I have ordered fabric from Lady Sew and sew but would rather buy it when I see it

Yes, I have ordered lots of fabric online. I resisted for a while because of the "I want to feel it" thing but I just can't get the selection locally that I can online. Every once in a while I am surprised by the color or scale of something I order, but mostly I am pleased with my purchases. I've bought from many different places and don't really have just one favorite. As far as I can remember I've had nothing but good experiences.

Skhf said...

I have ordered on line when I have run out of a fabric and could not buy locally. The last time I ordered was when that same company went out of business and had fun fabrics for $3 a yard. I have also ordered ore cuts from craftsy and a jelly roll company. It is fun to receive fabrics in the mail! I actually sew with orange all the time. One of my favorite colors.

I do order fabrics online. I have not been disappointed. I usually purchase my fabrics from Connecting Threads. Thank you for the giveaway.

Kathy ... aka Nana said...

I shop frequently online. I've never been disappointed, but then I'm ordering fabrics from well-known manufacturers and designers, so I'm confident that my fabrics will be good quality. Only once have I been even the tiniest bit disappointed, and honestly I wondered about the fabric as I was ordering it (a small FQ bundle) but the price was so good that I figured that even if there were a few pieces in the bundle that I wasn't wild about, I'd still be ahead. I usually (but not always) order from the Far Quarter Shop ... their service is always top notch.

I love orange. I purchase a lot of fabric on line. I order mostly from Hancocks of Paducah, they usually have some beautiful fabrics in their clearance section $ 2.99/ 3.99/4.99 a yard, and their shipping to Canada is reasonable $10.00 per $50.00 order. A lot of places start at 19.95 for shipping and go by weight.

When I was at Hancock's of Paducah earlier this year, I learned they have a 30 day return policy for online orders. The clerk told me this is because the online color may look a bit different than it really is. This does not apply to in-store purchases.

Rina Spina said...

When I'm in Italy I order fabrics online, but I prefer to "touch and smell " the fabrics I like before to buy them. Most the time I'm here in Houston area and I purchase fabrics at Joann's or Hobby Lobby, but I prefer "quilters cottage".

Oh, I feel so dumb . . . you ask a question and I forgot to answer it . . . that's what being excited does to me.
I have order fabric on line. I've had good luck with Green Fairy, their fabric is good quality and true in color . . . a little expensive, but I watch the sales. I've ordered from JoAnne's an been disappointed. Not true color and even a flaw or two. I agree that touching and feeling the fabric is the very best! I did just make an order from Hancock, this is my first time to order from them . . . they had some very pretty novelty prints that I couldn't resist (vintage paper dolls). I hope that I'm not disappointed.
Sorry for leaving three comments . . .I just forgot about your questions.

I do order fabric online from several companies like Missouri Star, Craft town, Fat Quarter Shop, Bear Creek, Hancock's of Paducah, Hawthorne Threads, Homestead Hearth, A Thousand Bolts, and others. I have not really had a problem with the color of fabrics as I sometimes click on the fabric manufacturer's website to check on the fabric's color and print. I buy locally as well.

I've ordered fabric online. I've rarely been disappointed. One favorite place is Fat Quarter Shop. They have some of the best packing and shipping is always quick. Another favorite is the Missouri Star Quilt Company. My husband and I visited there on our way to Iowa this past week. Again well packed and shipped quickly. Connecting Threads is an awesome place to get books at a discounted price and the fabric is priced right.
