Planes, Trains and Automobiles Blog Hop and Giveaway

Island Batik Planes, Trains & Automobiles Blog Hop

Welcome! Today is day three of the Island Batik blog hop Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Have you visited the other Ambassadors? There will be trips from all over. But today I am here representing the fabric line French Roasted.

You see we were each sent a fabric line to represent some area of transportation. So I took my airplane -

And my train -
and my automobile -
And we headed out to design a quilt that would travel around the world.  Well, maybe not exactly.
The pattern is called The Crooked Mile

What better way to arrive at our destination!

This line of fabric was so beautiful and the colors were perfect to make a mile that is crooked.

Island Batik fabric is really top quality. With that in mind, I am giving away a six fat quarter bundle of Sea Salt Sandy during this blog hop.

Leave a comment on this post telling me if you have ever made anything with Batiks before. I always shied away from Batiks before I became acquainted with Island Batik fabric. Other Batiks never felt quite as fine as theirs, so I've been won over after making several projects. The giveaway will be open during the whole blog hop and will close on March 4th. Because of the increasingly high cost of postage, I am limiting the giveaway to US only. Be sure I have a way of contacting you, as I will notify the winner by email.

Don't forget to stop by and visit            KISSed Quilts   Made In Scraps
They are on the blog hop today too!

Enjoy the HOP!

I have only used baptism once, they work wonderfully in the quilt, but I had a bit of help from the local quilt shop owner picking them out. I have not used them since then and I have , no idea why I haven't.

I have made batik quilt I called "Muddy Leaves", because the colors blend together giving it a "muddy" look just like the leaves on the ground here in South Louisiana.

Batiks are a favourite for me!!! I am currently working on a huge quilt for our master bedroom... It has been over a year from the start but since I am hand quilting it, it's slow progress (and between other quicker projects). Oh and the name for my huge quilt is Dream Batik!!

I've made several quilts with batiks. Lately I have been mixing them in with other fabrics in some scrappy quilts.

Your crooked mile quilt is just beautiful! Great color choices!

Good Morning! Thank you for the opportunity to get my name in on this give-a-way. I love Batiks, and have made a couple quilts using them. The first that I used were from a jellyroll that I purchased at a chain store and the quality wasn't want I wanted, but the second quilt that I used Batiks on I purchased by the yard at a nice fabric store and it did make a difference. It's great to hear of a nice quality fabric that I can get on line. I live in a very small town and shopping is far from the best here.
Have a happy day and keep smiling.
Connie :)

Those batik fabrics are so pretty. I have used batiks before, but they never seem "soft" enough for quilts that will be snuggled under. I'll have to check the Island ones out to see if they are softer.

I think that your quilt should be "All Roads Lead Home". Very nice!

I have worked with batiks, both in piecing and applique, batiks are great for raw edge applique,as they do not fray as much.

Cute pattern and of course I love batiks too :)

I used batiks for my project in the Ruffles blog hop organized by Mdm Samm a couple of years back. I made a wall hanging of a peacock, and I used ruffled stips of different colored batiks for the relaxed tail feathers. That was a fun project!

I have made lots of quilts from batiks, one of my favorite kinds of fabric to work with. It rarely ravels, presses so nicely.

I am finishing up a batik wall hanging or small quilt this week. The pattern was a mystery from 2011 and well, I got sort of overwhelmed and put it away. This year I am determined to finish some of my UFO and this one is nearly complete. I love the richness of batiks.

Shelley said...

I started quilting again because of Batiks. I love the versatility and color ranges. It looks more "modern" to me.

ShirleyC said...

I love, love batiks, but I've only used them on my grandkids I Spy quilts. I appliqued their names on a strip of batik for the center, and then lined the quilts.

There are so many pretty batiks. I get lost when looking!

How very clever of you to quilt a Crooked Mile for Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Island Batik fabrics are so delicious. I am not a quilter, however I do love fine fabrics for my other sewing projects. Thank you sew very much for hopping.

I've never made anything with Batik material - I think I need to jump out of my comfort zone. Going on this hop has made me realize how beautiful they all are!

Donna W said...

I have not used many Batiks in my quilting, -a few table runners and a bag. But sounds like I need to try Island Batiks.

Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting said...

I included batiks in with regular cottons, for my youngest son's graduation quilt, a few years ago. It was the first time I'd ever used batiks. I am in a block exchange (people powered sewing machines) that we are using only batiks for the star blocks. I had to go buy some batiks. It will be my first 'batik only' quilt.

Your quilt is lovely. I have only made one batik quilt about 6 years ago. I have a few batiks in my stash that I need to put to good use. I was confused about combining it with other fabrics. Since this hop I have been made aware that it is allowed. Thank you for the inspiration.

I have been using Batiks in the bears I have been sewing for Rare Bears. Love the texture and colors when designing a bear for an older child. The US has so many children with rare diseases and with the help of rarebears.org anyone can sew a bear for these children to hug and love thru the pain they endure.
Any time I can I pick up materials to sew them something to hug, I do. The bears are made from different combinations of designs and colors, rare like the disease they are inflicted with. Each bear becomes a hug and prayer I give a child using Gods talent He gave me.
Thank you for the opportunity to win material, it will be used for these if I am so lucky.
