My Featherweight

 My little lady came back!

She went in for a repair and was given a little overhaul. I don't use her much, but hopefully she will run better than ever.

Half square triangles

I have always thought Bonnie Hunter is a genius. She can make more quilts with scraps than anybody else I know.

So what do you do when you find a stack of cut triangles?

You sew them of course.

Nice pile.

Now I know I am not as creative as Bonnie, but I am going to figure out a pattern to use these 40 half square triangles. Here is a YouTube featuring seven different blocks to use bonus half square triangles.

Making an impact

Recently a question was asked if you ever regret giving a quilt. There were a lot of responses that said yes. Mostly from people who find that the quilt they made for someone, totally disregarded it. Sometimes when we give a quilt that we love to someone, they don't always see the time and effort you put into it.

But have you ever wondered how your quilts make an impact on someone's life?

I recently met a man in the military who told me that when he was being evacuated from Afghanistan, he was given a quilt. I asked him if it was a patriotic quilt. He said yes. And he still had it. He said it reminded him of the time he was in Afghanistan. He appreciated the words someone spoke to him when he received it. It seemed to be very special to him.

So just remember when you are making quilts, when we give of +ourselves, whether it is for Quilts of Valor, a nursing home or hospital, someone will appreciate it.

Sometimes You Stay

Welcome again to the Red Door Inn. Liz Johnson takes you back to Prince Edward Island. Where we are introduced to some old characters and some new.

Cretia Martin is a creative travel blogger who travels the world and posts about places, food and people. When all of her tools and worldly possessions lands in the harbor, she is stuck on PEI until she can order replacements. Meeting dog breeder Finn Chaffey and Joe Jr., the rescue newfoundland dog, brings a new light to Cretia. She has no desire to plant down roots. But the longer she stays in town, she finds it harder to leave.

This is a clean engaging romance. Slowly blossoming. The characters are fun, both human and animals.

I received a complimentary ebook copy from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Mindless sewing

Whenever I need to do some mindless sewing I always turned to pillowcases.

Making pillowcases for Ryan's Case for Smiles is a great way to decompress.

Batiks - an art form

If you have ever worked with Batiks and wondered how they are made, I found this interesting video on the process of making batik fabric. There are NO machines involved in making these beautiful designs.  I was totally amazed at the extent of this process.  It is no less than an art form.

Michael's

Well it seems that Michaels is taking up the banner since JoAnn's Fabrics is totally closing.

They have a decent selection although not as large as JoAnn's was. Reasonably priced, between 3.99 to 7.99. But in a pinch you could probably find something that appeals to you.  Check it out.

Everything's coming up Rosie

Rosie's life in New York is one of failure. Her dream was to be an actor, on the stage or screen. Which has not happened. And yet she still dreams of making it one day. She gives her friends and mother reports of how wonderful life is in NY, even though she has been lying to herself and everybody else. She is soon kicked out of her apartment for lack of rent payment. Rosie is offered a job at a Wisconsin theatre for a production of Cinderella, and she jumps at the chance to work with a creative team . But when she arrives, she discovers SHE is the team. And the theatre is in a retirement community. Can anything more go wrong in her life.

Booker is attracted to Rosie from their first meeting. But Rosie is only there for the summer, and it becomes difficult for her to let her heart open. Things go awry when the theatre floods, and the production may be cancelled.

This is a fun story. Lots of humor and banter between Rosie and Booker. This heartwarming story has a charming cast of characters that will warm your heart. A fresh clean romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received via NetGalley. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Let's GO!

Another helper in my sewing room is the GO! Baby.

This little machine is great for cutting 5" squares. I even have a die for the 2 1/2" strips. It is such a time saver and makes doing those mundane cuts way more accurate.

So GO! Baby!
