Tick Toc

Tick, toc, tick, toc........... the clock keeps ticking.

I've been working on a table runner that was to be a gift tonight.

All started out well. Some novelty type fabric..........

Making the cuts..............

Sewing them together..........

As I was sewing the pieces together, I started noticing a lot of red fraying on the edges. A horrible thought came to mind......... you see, I almost always pre-wash my fabric before I start on a new project. But this time, I was in a hurry and, and, and.......

I cut a little piece of the RED fabric, placed it in a cup of water, and to my horror!!!! the water almost immediately turned a pinkish red!! Oh no! I KNOW BETTER THEN THIS...............

I plunged whatever RED fabric I had left into water and soaked and swished several times over. Then back to the cutting board to cut out new RED pieces.

I've made it to this point last night............

and the pieces are laid out .....................

Will I beat the clock??

Oh man, we will see.................

Tick, toc, tick toc..............

Oh geez....you'd think by 2011 someone would have come up with a red that does not run and bleed onto other fabrics. Why are they putting astronauts on the moon before we can get our quilting needs met? I think we need to unite and vote a woman quilter into the big house so we can get some scientists onto the matter.

I'm really joking....but you would think by now this would not still be an issue. Hmmmm....us girls need to put our heads together and develop that die and cash in bigtime ....we'll all have huge sewing rooms with our own long arms and lots of window space.

Ahhhh...a girl can dream can't she?

Hugs,
Kelly

I know that feeling. I made aprons for my girls and boys for Valentine's. For the girls I was using this red eyelet that I bought fairly inexpensively. I started wondering if it would bleed after I was already in the throes of making them. I washed them afterwards, and lo and behold the red did not bleed onto the white and red polka dotted fabric that I made the ruffle from. Yea!!! I was one lucky granmomma!

I just hate to be rushed don't you? But then again I think I work better under pressure! lol
It is so beautiful. I am glad you found out before you gave it away.

I used to pre wash fabric all the time then stopped doing it. That is awful that you had that problem but a good thing you caught it in time. I hope you get it done on time.

oh man... yeah... i've been through that before. it's the pits, but like you, i start all over on the particular fabric giving me trouble. I would like to say I always prewash my fabrics, but alas that's not the case. I think it would be a good habit for me to get into though. :) I'm glad you realized what was happening before you got them sewed together. :)
