Dublin

A couple of years ago I took a trip with my hubby to Dublin....... Georgia not Ireland!  Right in the middle of town was an old museum filled with antiques and memorabilia. 

As you walked into the museum, right around the corner was an area that looked like an old library.  What is that I see laying on the sofa??

Crazy quilts!!

Let's take a closer look.

I'm pretty sure these were old as everything on display was from around the Civil War time.

I also thought these little dolls were sweet.

I can just imagine some little children playing with them.

You just never know what you will find when you are on an adventure :-)

When we moved into our new home a couple of years ago, we replaced the carpet in several rooms of the house.  After a few months I noticed a spot on the family room carpet.

Of course I was not happy about this spot on our new flooring.  

Recently I read on a blog (and I'm sorry that I can't remember where it was first posted) about spot cleaning using Club Soda!!  Hum........ now this sounded interesting.

So I figured I would give it a try.

 I soaked a cotton ball with the Club Soda and rubbed into the spot.

 I then rubbed it with a couple of paper towels to absorb the soda.

And wa-la!!  The spot is gone!!!!

Okay, you can't beat a 69c bottle of Club Soda :-)

Silent Sunday

Knitting nut

I know absolutely nothing about knitting.  Like in nothing, nada!!

I can't read a pattern, so I don't know what any of those funny symbols mean.

But I enjoy clicking those needles back and forth.

 

It is very relaxing, vegging in front of the TV.

 I really ought to take a class, so I can learn how to make something other then a scarf.

But until then, I will just knit back and forth and "HOPE" that I can knit enough to at least make a shawl.

 I love shawls.

Scripture Sunday

Tote

The first time I went to Paducah, I saw this tote bag made up.  I loved it, and bought the pattern. 

I am finally getting around to reading the pattern and thinking about making the panel.  I bought a 1/2 yard of tea dyed muslin, as the pattern called for.  

I have never transferred a pattern like this before. So I could use a little advise on how to actually do it.  I do not have a light table.  The pattern calls for using a disappearing pen to transfer the pattern, but I wondered if I could just do it with a pencil.  If someone can help me here, I'd really appreciate it. 

I'm loving it!!

Just Can't Cut It

Well, well, well, what is that I hear??  Could it possibly be the humming of my sewing machine?

It is!! It is!!!

After all these months, I decided that I needed to cut out some fabric.  The main fabric has a big pattern, so I'm using Just Can't Cut It.

A cool dip

You know is seems like just a few weeks ago people were still in the middle of frost and cold weather.  Now we are hitting high temps, in some places over 100 degrees.  So tell me, is that why when we see a picture like this we want to dip our toes into the water :-)

Let's get organized

Even though I have not been doing much sewing or quilting lately, there are things going on in the sewing room.

I save lots of scraps, and they end up being deposited into a basket here, or there.

One day I said, "Enough!!"  I had purposed to head down to IKEA and buy one of those cute turquoise rolling bins.  But as I never made it down there, I ended up buying this.

It works great to stash the scraps and charm packs.  And it was a fraction of the cost :-)

Then there was the closet, which was totally unorganized.

(this is only the bottom shelf, as I already started reorganizing the upper shelves)

Karen at Sew Many Ways shared a post about organizing her Kitchen Cupboards.        She used Fabric boxes to hold all sorts of things.  And the great thing is......... they were only $1.00!!  So I headed out to my Dollar Tree to see if they carried these boxes.  I found a large selection of smaller boxes, like the kind you would put in a drawer.  But the other day I went to a DT close to my house, one that might not be so heavily shopped, and found several of the larger 11 x11" size. 

So here is how the closet looks now.

Independence Day

Independence Day, July 4th, has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence.

What a find!

Sometimes I come across sewing and quilting items when I check out the local thrift shop.  In years past, I've found quilt books and magazines at a fraction of the retail cost.

If you remember a couple of weeks ago I mentioned I had found a quilting ruler and some border patterns.  So the other day I happened to drop back into the Hospice thrift store, just to look around ;-)

What I found was a wrapped package of fabric, marked 2 yards for $2.49.  I tried to see if I could read the selvage, but it was printed so lightly it was not distinguishable.  It was nice fabric, so I bought it, as I can always use a couple of yards for backing.

However, when I got home, and I really examined the selvage closely, I discovered that it says "Fairy Frost"!!!  Now I don't know about you, but Fairy Frost in our quilt shops runs $9 and $10 a yard.  The two yards that I bought ended up being $1.25 a yard!  Woo-Hoo!!! What a find!!!

And how about this calico facing??  I have NEVER seen facing in these colors before, and I've been sewing since the 70's and quilting since the 80's.  

Makes for some very Happy Quilting!
