Happy Mothers Day

Wishing each of you a Happy Mothers Day, whether you are the nurturer, or have ever been nurtured by a special lady in your life. May this day bring some sweet memory to cherish in your heart.

"Psalm for Mama"
Forgive me for the times I may have hurt you. Hear the song of love in my heart.

I do not remember the times I drank from your breasts, or the times I slept in your arms, or the times you sat beside me as I tossed with fevers.

I do not remember them, but I know those times existed. I have experienced those times with my daughter who will also not remember them.

I now understand things only mothers understand.

And at night, when I bend over and kiss your granddaughter, I sometimes feel your love in the room.

I only hope.... you can feel mine too!

(Terry Helwig)

Miss you Mom...........

One more time.....

Do you think you can stand one more post about my trip?? We had a lot of fun finding these little towns and cute shops. Here we stopped and went through an old Ice House. They had a lot of very interesting things set up in the rooms where ice used to be stored.

Believe it or not, we are not in Ohio or Pennsylvania but in Georgia!

This storefront was actually an antique shop, but I loved the old painted sign on their front window. Can you just go back and think about when folks bought groceries from the local store downtown?? I am sure they had a soda fountain at that time. Probably fabric dry goods too.

We ended up at the Peach Antique Mall one day. It was another place with rows and rows of booths. I found this beautiful milk pitcher. I don't think it is very old, but I just loved the spray of roses as they cascade down the pitcher.

In one very tiny booth, my daughter found these very cute depression glass snack sets.

We just couldn't imagine not going home with these. Now with all of these lovely glass pieces, I think it is time to have another tea party. Won't you join me??

Rescue continues...

There were so many pretties out there this past weekend, but there sometimes has to be something that makes me stop in my tracks to pry those Andrew Jackson's out of my wallet. Not that I am cheap or anything. I like to think of myself as "thrifty", and a woman who "considers a field and buys it". Not that I have bought any fields lately. Well maybe small, very small fields.

So when I was browsing up and down, row upon row of booths filled with every this and that you can think of, my eyes came upon this little grouping.

A breaksfast set, in the most creamy blue color you have ever laid your eyes on.

I have a real weakness for china and pretty dishes. Mostly ones made in England and the good ole US of A. This set is Johnson Brothers made in England. Can't you just picture some fine lady receiving her breakfast in bed served on this beautiful display of china?? Egg in the egg cup, oatmeal in the bowl and toast under the cover. A perfectly brewed pot of tea or coffee with fresh cream and a dash of sugar. So very lovely.

One object that I search for whenever I have an opportunity is a Depression glass pattern called Heritage. My Mom had a few cups and saucers, and when she passed away I brought them home. I have found a large platter, and a large serving bowl, an orphan saucer or cup every now and then. So whenever I stop in an antique mall, I keep an eye out for something to add to my collection.

At our last stop of the day, I found this cup in the first booth when we entered the store. It was a rather large store, and the further back I went I came across an orphan saucer. Yipee..... but that is not all. On further investigation, there was a pile of dishes all marked 1/2 off. It was there that I found some of these -

What a very nice addition to my collection.

As we had put many miles on the car, the GPS had directed us to an Air Force Base town. Jet planes were soaring overhead as we drove down the main road. Jets in formation darted back and forth as crowds were watching from the streets. It was a full, fun and exhausting day.

Search and rescue

This past weekend turned out to be a hunters delight. Hunting for antiques that is. There were four of us gals, left to amuse ourselves while our guys were all deep in meetings for three whole days. We searched on the computer for a LQS, and found that the closest one was 1 1/2 hours away! So what were we to do?? After very careful deliberation, we decided that it would be absolutely necessary to make the 1 1/2 hour drive to the designated Quilt shop, and then work our way back, visiting any and all Antique malls, or junk shops we could find along the way.

From the sneak peek that I shared with you yesterday, here are some of the things that we rescued. It was so sad to see many once very loved items that have been discarded. We felt that it was our "green" duty to recycle and reuse.

My dear daughter found this beautiful set of pillowcases, perfectly embroidered and in very good condition.

She also found these old restaurant mugs and coffee creamer. They remind me of Mayberry. As a matter of fact, the town we found it in was just like Mayberry. We kept expecting to see Andy and Barney walking down the street.

I found this cute little dishcloth with the duck embroidery. Love those days of the week!

A sweet apron with white rick rack! I love the blue fabric. Someone made lots of apple pies and cakes wearing this apron.

My daughter scooped up this wonderful old quilt. I have been trying to date the fabrics, and I think it would be 30's or 40's. The colors are so soft and each block is different. Lovely find.

Each day that we headed out, we found new and some very rewarding places to stop. One of the shops in the little town where we were staying was called "Treasures". That store held our greatest treasure. This is what we found at "Treasures".

One white trunk in very good condition.

Inside of the trunk.

And this is what the trunk looked like when we were going home!

woo-hoo...... more to share tomorrow!

Sneak peek

This past weekend, we traveled to middle Georgia. My dear sweet husband and # 3 son were in meetings. Which left us gals with plenty of time on our hands. We visited several historical sites, antique malls and a few junk shops. Just thought I would give you a little sneak peek at some of the treasures we found.

ooo, such lovely linens.........

So much to share.............
So much to unpack.................

Until tomorrow..............................

Happy quilting :-)

Full Moon Forest

As I have been trying to catch up on my emails and google reader, I came across Tula Pink's blog. Apparently her first line of Full Moon Forest fabric was gone in a flash. So Moda is bringing her back with Full Moon Forest II. These fabrics are so beautiful. I just can't wait for them to appear at my LQS.

Please promise that you will leave a little for me too...........

Teacup Tuesday

Shabby, Pink and Pretty invited me to participate in Teacup Tuesday. It has been fun collecting teacups over the years. Although some are not fancy teacups, I have a nice collection of teacups that have special meaning to me.

Today for my first teacup, I wanted to share one that is very special. It is a teacup that my mother in love painted for me for my birthday a couple of years ago.

My mother in love has been a china painter for many years, and although her vision and dexterity are not what they used to be, she still enjoys putting some paint on plain white china.

I am showing you the bottom of the teacup because she signed it Mama :-)

Put on a pot of water and make yourself a cup of tea. There is nothing more peaceful then to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book.

Wishing you a wonderfilled day.
