Choose your weapons

Rotary cutters. There are so many varieties available now. There are big ones, and small ones. There are cutters with straight blades and some with wavy blades. They come in an ergonomic design, or just plain ;-) The list could probably boggle the mind.

So, what is your weapon of choice?

Small?

Medium?

or large?

I had problems with this large blade rotary. The lock would not stay in the locked position when I would use it. I wrote to the company and they sent this replacement, no questions asked -

But my favorite baby is this one

She was my first rotary and I still love to use her when I am cutting fabric. I also find that my blades don't dull as easily when I use her sister mat.

I have several mats, and I find that the Olfa mat seems softer then some other brands. I don't know if that is what makes the difference in dulling a blade, but I'm an Olfa girl :-)

So choose your weapon................. and start cutting :-)

Happy Quilting!

I used to use Olfa cutting products, but I've changed my mind with the newer Gingher entries into the market.

I have the Gingher rotary cutter that I use with Gingher mats, and there is absolutely no comparison. Gingher wins, hands down.

and no, I'm not a Gingher rep. *S*

I am a OLFA girl too. I have to finish cutting out a quilt today. I got to get started. I have to have it done in 2 weeks!

Hm - I love the Fiskars cutter best, first one I ever used, I guess you stay with your first love, lol! I'll have to try an Olfa mat though, my mat is in rough shape.

I've been very happy with Olfa products. Have tried a few others, but from my perspective Olfa has the best quality and feel.

I have a pink olfa, 45 mm, with the ergonomic grip. It's the one I use most! :)

My favorite is the medium size one. I have a pink one.

My weapon of choice is definitely the LARGE Olfa cutter and I'm with you on the Olfa mat. Over the years I have tried others, but they just don't stand up to Olfa.

I agree, Olfa is great. I purchased my first one from an ad in the back of a quilting magazine when my daughter was born. No one had ever seen one in rural Nebraska. I even use it for garment cutting!

I love my Olfa mats and cutters. I have one just like you and use it all the time. I also have a Fiskars rotary cutter and like it because of the lock. Sometimes I put my Olfa cutter down open, oops not a good thing. I forget to use my mini Olfa cutter.

I use a medium Fiscar for cutting larger pieces of fabric and a small Olfa when I'm hand piecing. Nothing compares to Olfa mats though, I've had mine for YEARS and they are still in great shape.

I prefer to use the 45mm Fiskars rotary cutter as it doesn't put as much strain on my wrist when I'm doing a lot of cutting. I also had a problem with the larger one not keeping the blade engaged. I've used the Olfa and Fiskars mats. Seems as though I'm always replacing them. LOL

I've only had olfa cutters. All sizes but my most favorite is the ergonomic one...you just squeeze and cut and when you release the "handle" the blade is protected.

My Fiskars used to by my favorite, but once I tried the Martelli ergonomic one, I can't go back. It lets me cut for HOURS without even feeling it. I do agree with you on the mat. I have 2 of their largest ones covering the top of my island, and I LOVE them.

My favorite is my old Olfa 45mm. I've bought a new one from Clover and it is also a very good one so I use both! My cutting mat is also from Olfa.
