After the disaster in Houston, people seem to be in a panic mode, taking Hurricane Irma very seriously. For days I've hunted the stores looking for bottled water. None is to be found. If a pallet arrives, the bottled water is gone in minutes.
So short of camping out in the grocery store, I've been making my own water supply.
I'll keep making filtered water and filling them in bottles until the danger of the storm has passed. Hurricane Irma is being predicted to be the worse hurricane we have had in years. Bigger than Andrew that hit Miami 25 years ago. We have been tracking on hurricanes.gov and watching the weather reports.
Stanley Goldenberg is a federal hurricane research meteorologist. His family experienced the maximum winds of Hurricane Andrew when their house was blown apart. He sends updates when he can. His 5 P's of Preparedness focuses on -
1. Protect
2. Provisions
3. Plans
4. Predictions
5. Pray
Please pray for our family and friends. Pray for the officials handling the approaching hurricane and those who will be flying into the storm to collect data.
And of course pray for the people of Houston. They are not out of the woods yet. They may yet be impacted by more rain from Irma. And if you can help, please do so by making a contribution to any of these quality and experienced organizations.
These volunteers are the feet that bring hope to the victims who have lost everything. And these organizations know the best ways to help the most.

Praying for your safety!!
I do so hope the predictions are wrong...be safe....we use to fill our bathtub with water....
Praying for your safety, and all in areas impacted by Irma - keep at the water - getting through the storm is one thing, but afterward, when getting supplies are difficult and the water and power are shut off, that can make things very tough! Please post when you can after the storm...
Stay safe. We were checking on my cousin in Florida (his sister lives in the Houston area), but, he just sold his condo, and is several states away now, thank goodness.
Prayers to you and everyone in Irma's path!
Please stay safe. Our prayers are with all those in the path of the hurricane as well as the western wildfires.
thinking and keeping in my prayers all in the path of this devastating hurricane, have a nephew in Dominican Republic waiting to hear all is well with him.
You are in my prayers. HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGs
I hope you all keep safe and it passes without any damage...
We continue to pray for everyone in Texas and Louisiana and added those affected by Irma. Stay safe!
I'm in Tampa and officially feeling terrified. Good luck to us all.
Somebody suggested filling ziploc bags with water and keeping them in your freezer. If you need them, they'll be cold. If you lose electricity, they'll keep your food cold. Thinking of you and your family. Praying for safety.
Stay safe and if you need to evacuate...I'm here in North Carolina and have plenty of room:-)
This is not fun...we live in Naples ...southwest FL and really scary. Stay safe
I am determined to be better prepared next time around. There will be a next time. I've frozen huge amounts of water and put it in my freezer. I figure we can use it for drinking after it's thawed but while frozen, it will keep the freezer items cold.
We have a garage. We are going to be better about stock piling water there. I said we'd do that last year after Matthew and did not.
I hadn't realized you were so near the worst of it. Stay safe!
