On Saturday, on my way out of JoAnn's I noticed a lady doing a demo. I walked over and watched as she unraveled ribbon yarn.
Now I am mostly a beginning knitter, but I watched as the lady walked through the technique to make a ribbon scarf. And I think I got it.
It took me a couple of times to figure out how to get started but slowly I was winding my way through this yarn.
However I came to a screeching halt when I came to this..........
The top thread that you knit is separated from the rest of the yarn :-(
When I was thinking about writing this post, I was going to give my glowing report on this ribbon yarn and how reasonable it is at JoAnn's ($4.99), but today I will have to make the trip back and see if they have another skein (they were all sold out last week).
Sigh...............

I knitted a scarf from this sort of thing...yarn store brand...and I love the idea of it, but mine is SO SHEDDY! I guess it's mohair or something (it was a gift) so it just leaves threads everywhere on me when I wear it!
Very pretty!! Bummer on it coming apart :(
Oh no! I would be so upset to find such a mess half way through a skein of yarn! I hope JoAnn's will make it right with you!
I had a problem with Red Heart Super Saver yarn this last week too. It had a large fused glob in the center of the skein. I e-mailed them but have not heard from them yet.
Thanks for your post. I have wanted to try this yarn since I first saw the scarf posted. Think I will order mine instead of trying Joanne's. Hopefully this was just one bad skein. Be sure and let us know how the scarf turns out.
That's too bad. My mother-in-law knitted me a scarf for Christmas and I love it. I hope you will be able to find more yarn.
If you have a hard time finding the yarn with the color you want, please, email me and I will look around me and see if I can find it =)
Its really pretty...the scarf and the colors...I'm sorry for your frustrations.

Oh, how disappointing, it really takes the pleasure out of the project. And the colour is lovely. I've found that even with the more expensive yarns, sometimes there are bits of uneven wool.
Oh bummer....and it's looking so pretty too!
Gosh darn it....I'm sorry that happened to you. I've had things like that happen too. Guess that's what you get for stepping away from your sewing machine! LOL....sorry I couldn't resist.
Hugs,
Kelly
what a shame....it was all coming along so well and looks very pretty! Hope you have success.

I want to learn how to do that. Wonder if there's a U-Tube for it. I like that this can be found at Joann's.
Looks so pretty! Hope it is just a bad skein and you can find another to fix it.

I had the same problem--I cut the affected piece off, layered the cut ends and continued knitting. The edges will blend into the scarf--aggravating but much easier than trying to return the yarn, especially if you have to go some distance to do it. But you can still keep the affected pieces and show the company once finished with the project.
OOO! that is such a neat scarf so far. Glad you were able to get new yarn and start again. Hopefully no problems with the new skein.
I'm currently working on my 6th scarf out of that yarn, and have never gotten a skein like that. Our shop was having trouble keeping it in stock, too! They make up so fast!
