Red, White and Blue

Red, white and blue.  This time of year brings out the patriotic colors.

We start off with Memorial Day, then Flag Day and then our American Independence Day.

Do you use these colors only at this time of year?

Do you decorate with quilts for the different seasons?

Great question. I've been quilting for nearly 40 years. I don't think I've ever made a red, white and blue quilt. In the early days I made lots of scrappy traditional quilts, but tended to combine patriotic blue with pink. Now that I make art quilts, I lean towards the full spectrum. I do enjoy seeing what others create in red, white and blue, though.

I hang seasonal quilts to celebrate the holidays. They add a homey feel, while adding a huge punch of appropriate color. Red/White/Blue and Americana are my favorites, and I always welcome summer and show them off for five months (Halloween, Valentine's, Christmas get only 30 days apiece). I do need to make something green for St. Patrick's day.... Thanks for the quilt cleaning tips, it was posted at just the right time!

I haven’t decorated with quilts but want to. I’m in major declutter mode and this is one of the first things I’ll give attention to.
