Why is it that we are drawn to something and before we know it we've started a collection?
Of course, as quilters, the obvious.............
And then there are these...............
and these.............
I've always loved vintage things too -
And tea things............
My daughter loves Starbucks coffee, so she's picked up a few of these........
And my son is a big fan of these ..............
So what do you collect? How did you fall in love with the first piece in your collection? I'd like to know :-)

Aside from the quilting things you've mentioned, I have a collection of small pitchers...not sure how it got started or why. I also have a collection of penguin figurines and not sure how that got started or which one I got first. I started myself on a teapot collection (for which I have no more room) when I got a cute teapot for one a few years back. I also started myself collecting Jim Shore figurines because I like the "quilty" art he uses. Oh, yes...I have a few pieces of colored glass bottles...mostly small ones. I really do need to STOP collecting things.....am running out of room now!
I had a collection of Angels.I saw one and loved it and it went on from there. I had all sorts of them but one time we needed money and a lot of things went in the garage sale. My mom always collected tea cups and those glass shoes and the covered hen dishes. Now I just quilt fabric.
Oh Lord J..I think I begin the collecting bug as a child. I loved vintage and older things even then.
I always loved the English who simply kept things in the household from each generation some adding a few things here or there new.
Just a cozy way to live.
I begin to have tea early in life with my Great Aunt Mary and she also was the one to set me to sewing.
If I brought home everything that sets my heart to singing we would have NO ROOM FOR US! Ha!!
Hello, I have a collection of small elephant figurines, and colored glasses, and fabrics, of course.Hugs from Brasil I love your blog and your works,
Jocelyn ~ The antique bug got me started.
My FEEDSACKS have taken over the house now ... all 2,200+ of them.
First I would see something pretty & would be off weekly looking for 'more' of it. I had at one point hundreds of miniature children's tea sets, then 800 silhouettes (down to about 600 now) because of the story & exquisite art display in each ... and so on. I sold all the dolls & tea sets & many other collections that were tucked in boxes in closets & even under the bed ... the silhouettes I am slowly parting with. I have this issue of 'parting' with things I love.
Have a beautiful weekend ... TTFN ~Marydon
Gee, I don't collect anything except patterns and fabric....I don't have to dust them LOL. I do love looking at vintage stuff and tea cups/pots and pitchers though.
Oooo Hardy Boy mysteries, I had all of those plus Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon. Oh and the Box Car Children books, loved those.

Well I used to collect books - I had a personal collection of over 10,000 when I had to move, and they all got sold. Then, when I had the boys, I started collecting again. We had every room in the house lined with bookshelves, until I found out my youngest was allergic to dust! Yep, they got sold too. I could cry at the precious children's books I had to get rid of.
Now, of course, fabric - but not as much as I used to - and flamingoes, but I only have a few. Behind glass, for easy dusting. I struggle very much with not collecting, I like to live simply without clutter and it's NOT EASY when you love to shop the thrifts and antique malls! I love everything from the 20's through to the 50's.
We have a good number of collections at tmy house, too. DS loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid (still does actually). We have a collection of TMNT items. I have a collection of Cabbage Patch dolls that I picked up at garage sales. I have a pottery collection especially pitchers. Books, we have several series especially from our favorite children's authors. We are beginning to collect items with dachshunds on them since we have added Rusty to our household. Great topic!
In addition to fabric, I collect perfume from a particular vendor in CA. A friend reviewed some of their fragrances on her blog, and it was so un-perfume sounding that I went to the vendor site and spent the next two hours poring over all of the bizarre combinations. I tried a few samples, and it was all over. :) I also collect tea pots, and have about a dozen. I keep thinking perhaps shelves are in order--the pots are outgrowing the hutch they're currently in. Hehe.
that's a dangerous question! My current "growing" collection is of fabric, sewing books, and quilting tools. I also have a collection of knitting and crochet books and magazines, rubber stamps, dies for papercutting, and card making and papermaking supplies. My husband is sooooooo gracious!
Over the years there have been so many things I've collected and then decided I needed to simplify! I don't have many collections of any one thing except all things fabric. LOL
I do love my collection of wabbits, though!
;-)
I collect "projects to do lists" and then I try to get to them!!!
I promised myself one day I would collect minatures. I told myself when I was old enough I would begin. I fear dusting and where to put them....so I have not permitted myself to collect anything yet. Although my husband would say differently....he'd say I collect fabric and scrapbook paper.....those are not collections....they are/will be used up!!

I do not collect anything here but back home and the wonderful garage sells in Texas...well...I love dishes...especially dishes with lids, like teapots, sugar dishes, etc....and ofcourse, fabrics.
I collect all kinds of things...fabric, teddy bears, dolls, pincushions, gadgets, thimbles, and potholders. Your collections are neat!

I love to collect books, buttons, fabric, good cookbooks and some dishes. We have quite a lot in common!
I collect crocks and yellowware. Before I retired and 'painted' for a living, I used to use my collectibles in all of my still life paintings.
I haven't bought any in the last couple of years. But since I started quilting, I now collect scissors...and I can't stop! Yikes!
Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I chose the name you suggested for my quilt. Thank you! Road to Redemption is a beautiful name. I gave you five extra chances since you had the winning name, but unfortunately another voter won. Thank you for visiting my site and I hope you will again. Yours is wonderful.
I know what you mean. There is just something about a collection of things that makes one feel complete. I collect tea pots, sea shells, and buttons! Love your collections! blessings,Kathleen

I love vintage linens and I have a dish fetish, but I try not to collect anything (except quilt fabric). I have a glass chicken collection that belonged to my grandmother, but it's packed away in a box. When I got divorced, I went through an "angry" spell, and pared down a lot. I decided I wanted to live a much simpler life than I had been living, and so I got rid of a LOT of material possessions. I'm much happier now, but I still love vintage stuff. The only vintage items I actually end up buying are things I can actually use. I make quilts and other quilted items from all the vintage linens I collect. I use all the vintage dishes I have. I have a couple vintage sewing boxes, and the rocking chair that belonged to my mother. Vintage items just evoke a special feeling . . . I'm sure you all know exactly what I mean . . .
All the same things you collect and in addition...chintz, needlepoint, sea shells, yarn, books by Anita Shreve and the Harry Potter series and any good autobiography's...well, let's just say books of all kinds, and old plates. I'm sure there's more but right now I can't think of what it could be!
I collect all things fiber related. Wow, your son has quite the Hardy Boys collection. My son is just getting into them now.
You look like a family of collectors!! I love your sons collection of Hardy Boys - I used to love them and Trixie Beldon when I was younger.
